Got skunked hunting today............
.....but it was still one of the prettiest days in the last month or so. I was fifteen miles into the woods before the sun came up and hiked another two miles to a peak that looked down into three valleys. Within twenty minutes of the sun coming up, I had three big elk cows and a medium sized spike bull walk right past me (within 25')! They never even knew I was there. [:D]
My license is only good for a brow tined bull, or I would have taken the largest cow without hesitation. Knowing that I couldn't take any of the four beautiful beasts was a very humbling experience. Instead of the typical adrenalin release, I actually yawned and almost started laughing. [:0]
I've also got a deer license to fill before the 25th, but again I'm limited to a buck (whitetail or mule). Of course, I saw several nice big healthy does today and they just stood there (and laughed at me). The single muley buck that came into my zone today looked like a one year old with a tiny rack. I watched him practice his grunting skills, but he too ended up empty handed. He'll look better next season. [^]
Although trekking alone today, I enjoyed spending the day with nature, God and all of his little creatures. Good for the soul. I hope everyone here had a good day too. [:)]
