RIA Comander's New Look!
Most of you have seen the picture of my RIA Comander in the middle on this picture:
Well now it has a new look about it![:D]
I added new Stainless Steel Wilson Combat Beavertail, hammer, trigger, and Ambi-safety! And darn does it look good![:D][:D]

Not at all it clears everything real well.
I do need to shoot it a bit so I can go and adjust the trigger pull on it as it is a little stiff yet. But I was recomended to shoot 50 to 100 rounds through it first as it will lighten up slightly within that amount of rounds.0 -

The beavertail took a little buffing to get to fit corectly but was doable.
The total cost for the upgrades was $260 includeing parts and the gunsmith work.
The gunsmith showed it to so other RIA owners and now he has them lineing up to get the same work done![:D]0 -

...Chris is a super nice guy and does exceptional work (ALL kinds)...at a VERY good price to boot! Matt hardchrome. Less than 3 week turnaround, cousre I just sent off all the parts, not the entire gun which I am sure would have added time and $$$.
...I was wanting to buy a Chip McCormick silver trigger, well, CM and everyone who carries their triggers is out untill late summer, so auction hunting I did go.
...The ONLY CM trigger I could find was black, bought that. The shoe on most triggers is aluminum and won't plate, or if they do thru tricky little processes, the cost is prohibitive. Chris bead blasted my trigger shoe, at no extra cost, good people!
...I like a little "pimpin' on some 1911's...[:p]
...Any changes I make on any of my 1911's, I chase down all original parts, then take the "originals" out of the gun...and mark/pack those parts up. Ext-BT, trigger, sear/sear spring, reduced power mainspring, firing pin spring etc., I can change back to original, no harm done.
... If I change the BT to an ext-BT, I only use Wilson drop-in, no cutting/machining the tang; and Wilson BT's fit really well, closer tolerance than most of Colt's! If you have an Ed Brown ext-BT installed, you are doomed to EB only as they are wider than any other BT on the market, .250 I think Other than the BT, I don't care for an ambi or "extended" anything.

This was the first of my Rocks to get finished on the custom work. I got another still out being Nickle plated. It is going slow on it because the place that has it is in a back up right now and I was given a special price on it so other stuff comes first.
I am going to get another Rock done just like this one but it will be the full sized rather than a Comander.
This project started because this Comander was giving me hammer bite. So I figured I'd go ahead and get all the extras added to it.0 -
..well you done good! I think it looks great, and the "hammer bite" is not hard to do w/o!
I have my eye on a one owner (still owns it) series 70 Combat Commander...14 rounds EVER fired thru it (99.9%!) If I get that, I may do the same treatment. I'm thinking of an older LW C Commander too, for carry.
THEN, Im thinking about finding a Commander that is in good shape (functional) but that is UGLY. I know where a satin nickle C Commander is that is great, but that satin nickle finish is all but gone..$500 bucks! About $300 will hardchrome it and change all the internals (me doing the work) if need be for me too feel "comfortable" with it for carry...but that one owner series 70 is calling me...[;)]0 -

Lets see $260 for standard Kimber parts plus the price of the gun. Hummmmmmmm..................you could of had the Kimber for the same money with a match barrel and bushing included.
A match barrel Kimber will out shoot one of those with both eyes closed.[:D][:D][;)]0 -

This one came with a chrome lined bull target barrel from the factory. And with the $260 I put into it I only have $600 into the gun.
You cannot buy a Kimber for that!
And this thing is very darn accurate! It is just as accurate as my Tactical model.
The gunsmith who did the work (I also bought it from him) has shot this one and said it is every bit of a gun to go up against a Kimber or the likes.
My grouping is not as good as it could be but it is due not the gun at all. It is me!0 -

I must have a totally different concept of what handguns are for. If I can hit center mass at 30 feet, I'm happy. Seldom do I use sights on a pistol/revolver.

I would never put a person down for owning a Kimber or any other gun. If you all remember corectly up untill a few months ago I owned a Jennings![:D] Although I must have had a rare one as mine worked perfectly.
All I know is I have found that I am very happy with my Rock Islands and even with 6 of them here in the stable I am looking to buy more of them.
Bottom line is most any gun is a good gun in my book![:D][:D][:D][:D]0 -

All mine were new when purchased. But most did come from the auction side.

I got a couple that I will be doing with Novak sights. They have some decent sights and if you send the gun in they will fit them and sight in in for you at a pretty decent price.
I'm not sure if I will do this commander though as I may use this for shooting IDPA and they have a sight requirement.0 -

Actually I am only doing cosmetic stuff to a few of my rocks. I in no way feel that they need any work to make them better functioning guns because they function just fine.
