UDP Edit: Road Report

I just bought an under drive crank pulley for my Taurus. Proven to free up 8 to 10 horse power at the wheels. I found it through the Taurus Car Club of America(TCCA). There's a lot of nut jobs in the TCCA that have done insane mods to Tauruses. This is the first mod I've done to mine, next I'm thinking of up grading the suspension. It's time to give the Bull a little more snort.

Edit: I installed the UDP on the Taurus today. I tell you what, it makes a noticeable difference. The engine is more responsive, you can definitely tell it's not working as hard, and at 70 mph there's a 3 mpg increase in economy. Totally worth the money and and 40 minutes it took to install it.

    I almost bought one of those older Taurus SHO's a few years ago. I couldn't get over the power that little car had! The oil boots around the spark plugs were leaking and I didn't buy it.

    SHOs are relativity fragile cars. All three generations of the SHO have pushed their respective platforms nearly to the edge in factory form. The 3rd Gen SHOs with the 3.4 V8 (yes, it had a 60 degree Yamaha DOHC V8) was a wicked car, almost everything in that engine was race spec from the factory. The biggest weakness in all Tauruses are the tranny, the SHOs especially. I'm only looking to get 180 to 190 hp out of mine(up from the factory 150ish). Brakes and suspension upgrades are next.

    I just found roller rocker arms for my engine, another relatively cheap and easy mod that'll free up the ponies.

    I've heard of people getting 200+ from the 3.0 L OHV, but at that point the engine starts to loose reliability. For a daily driver, 180 to 190 is decent, and only weighing 3300 pounds, the power to weight ratio is respectable.

    Ref: your new Taurus..

    Are the driven pullies going to remain stock? Is there enough idler-adjustment to be able to use a stock belt? If not, carry an extra belt for replacement purposes.

    And, the water-pump will be circulating less. Watch out for overheat problems when idling. Joe

    EDIT:Too bad you have to mail your Taurus down to Florida to get it repaired, though.[:D]Joe

    I got a shorter belt with the pulley. The other pulleys remain and the only adverse effect of installing this pulls is a slight volt drop at idle.

    That took me awhile to work out, but I finally got it. Last horse just crossed the finish line.

    After your upgrades you'll be right around where I'm at with my 1.8 liter 4 cyl. Toyota. [;)][:p]
