UFC Fight Night on Spike
Here is the line-up for Fight Night Live on Spike tonight.
TELEVISED
Rashad Evans*/Sean Salmon
Jake O'Brien/Heath Herring*
Hermes Franca*/Spencer Fisher
TELEVISED TIME PERMITTING
Dean Lister*/Nate Marquardt
NOT TELEVISED
Chad Reiner/Josh Burkman*
Ed Herman*/Chris Price
Clay Guida*/Din Thomas
Ross Pointon/Rich Clementi*
My picks are marked "*".
The 3 televised bouts are going to be entertaining because all of the fighters are brawlers but the key match-up of the night is the swing bout between Lister and Marquardt. These two may have short UFC/MMA records but they are highly experienced world class fighters.
Lister is considered one of the top submission specialists in the world but his lack of striking experience has been difficult to overcome. He has spent the last year dropping down to 185 from 205 and working on his striking. If this guy can put together an AVERAGE striking game he will take the 185 UFC ranks apart.
Don't underestimate Marquardt in this fight. he is ranked #7 in the world at 185, Lister is unranked. Marquardt is fast, strong, and has lots of experience.
Anyway, if it gets TV time this is the fight to watch. Marquardt will want to strike and Lister will want to go to the ground. The winner of this fight will be a top contender in the 185 lb. division.

I'll take Evans over Salmon... gotta go with Spencer Fisher... I guess Herring to win over O'Brien. Ed Herman to loose to Price and dont know the others. I have found that predicting a winner in MMA is not easy. Forest Griffin's loss to Keith Jardine being a good example, or Laban over Mike Swick. Ya just never know. 0 -
i agree with elk. what sucks is i have a night class tonight and am going to miss it [:(] cant figure out the whole tap from sat. to vcr yet...[:(!] 0 -

Nothing wrong with picking Fisher over Franca. Franca is my upset of the night...
Jardine's TKO over Griffin was an upset but not huge shocker. Jardine is a brawler and Griffin is spending too much time looking for the perfect angle. Griffin's striking technique looks sharp but we haven't seen him do anything with it. I do think he beat Tito with it. Griffin needs to put a little mean back into his fights.
As for Leben...I don't think he has what it takes to compete at this level. Not enough smarts...0 -
leben blows. my favorite fight with that sissy is his fight against anderson sylva...UFC debut....talk about ass whoopin.... 0 -

Couldn't agree more!! I loved his last fight against Jason MacDonald. Watching Leben get put to sleep was awesome. Was LMAO in the end when he was trying to tap...tough to do when your brain is running out oxygen.[:D]0 -
Question. I've recently started watching this type of fighting. Any opinions on UFC vs Pride Fighting? Both appear to have some great competitors. Which overall has the best fighters? 0 -
Nice kick to the head. [:D] 0 -

I think it depends on the weight class. Pride has better heavyweights and lightweights. UFC is better in all others. The recent additions of "Rampage" Jackson and Mirko "Cro Cop" to UFC is huge for the heavyweight division.0 -

WOW!!! One of the most brutal KOs you will ever see. Rumor has it he is in the hospital but ok. I don't think a fighter is ever the same after getting hit like that.0 -
Here are the results
Rashad Evans*!/Sean Salmon
Jake O'Brien!/Heath Herring*
Hermes Franca*!/Spencer Fisher
Dean Lister*/Nate Marquardt!
Chad Reiner/Josh Burkman*!
Ed Herman*!/Chris Price

Ross Pointon/Rich Clementi*!

Winners marked as "!"
Looks like I went 5 out of 8. O'Brien was a major upset. My boy Lister got smoked. And the buzz is that Guida got robbed.
Not many MMA fans on here... I guess out of guns, sex, and violence GB is more of a guns-n-loven crowd.0 -
Elk, well I was wrong on all the outcomes except Evans and Salmon. Thats a knock out that we'll see replayed many times. Did you hear in the post fight interveiw with Rogan, Evans said Salmon was still laying on the mat? 5 minutes or more must have pasted, not a good sign. Fisher did surprise me, so did Herring in fact. Ya just never know with MMA what the outcome will be. 0 -

That is why I enjoy it so much.0 -
Regarding Chris Leben, I know he isnt champion material but the guy can fight. He's not the technician that some are but the kids head is made of stone. Forest is tough and pretty smart in the ring. But he is no Iceman. I agree that he needs to slug and not stalk. And as for Silva, I dont who at this point could defeat him. And I would like to see a rematch between Hughs and St.Pierre. I would'nt be surprised down the road to see UFC buy out Pride. Dana White has hinted that they are interested in "combining" the entire sport of MMA. 0 -

Not a bad idea, a merger would put all the fighters under one "roof". One of the main problems with Pro Boxing is the many sanctioning organizations, it also could use some reorganizing.0 -
Professional boxing is a mess. A shadow of what it was. MMA will eventually absorb almost all of the fan base. 0 -
Thats true, I cant even watch boxing anymore. UFC ruined it for me. [:D] 0
