If you quit, there's no reward.

If you stick it through, there's millions in court awards and settlements to be made.

I'd've stuck around and sued the crap out of my employer.

A bad job is better than no job. Even so after these guys get a settlement they probably wont need a job..[:0]

And the rest of the story is what, that they're gay? That they willingly participated?

Everything I've read suggests the opposite. What's the REST of the STORY?

If the job was important to me, I would have refused and forced them to fire me. At that point I would have left.

If the job was unimportant, I would have quit.

Abandoning one's principles by pretending to accept the order, and then abusing the court system because somehow you discovered said principles is a definite symptom of one of our greatest flaws as a nation.

Man up, people. You have no right to monetary gain simply because you work for an idiot. You have not been harmed. I cannot understand the logic that puts a price on self-respect.

LOL ... they've been marching for years in Gay Pride marches - voluntarily
every year. THIS year the Department figured it'd be OK with them to
mention it - 'FORCING' - them to march.

Hogwash - some saw the $$$'s in it and went for it.

    Nobody protested BEFORE the march!

    We been had![:0]

They should be making a cool couple of mil a piece!

... not bad for an afternoon's 'walk in the park!'

You pick and choose your battles. There are battles worth winning and battles that aren't. This particular instance is, IMO, a battle worth winning.

You have a homosexual boss who states that her homosexuality isn't an issue with the job. Your homosexual boss then states that you will attend a Gay Pride Parade on behalf of your employer -- not that you will attend for safety reasons (a perfectly acceptable reason) but that you will be an active participant in the parade, and your employer is an EOE and there is nothing in its mission statement suggesting that it is a homosexual-rights organization. Your homosexual boss implies that your career is on the line if you do not take part. You do so because you want to keep your job, you have seniority, and the job is a good one despite this one order, which you are hoping to overlook. You attend, and you are humiliated and insulted in the process.

By claiming that your civil rights were violated (First Amendment) and that your employer required attendance at an event that you found morally offensive, and subjecting you to sexual harassment and verbal abuse, thus creating an unsafe work environment, this is exactly what the court system is set up to handle.

If fired, I would still have brought suit for wrongful termination. If not fired, I would have sued for everything stated above. I would not have quit this job just to ease up on the courts and to make someone's life easier.

If this was your wife or daughter who was forced by her boss to hang out at a strip club, or to view a pornographic film, my guess is that you'd be upset and want to sue as well, and you probably just wouldn't say, "Just quit" and walk away from it. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing I'm right.

Why is it the responsibility of the courts to protect your tender sensitivities? You pretend to be a conservative, yet when given the opportunity to stand up for yourself, you run to the loving arms of your protective government.

BTW, if this situation was forced upon my wife or daughter in-law, I would discourage the frivolous lawsuit with every fiber of my being. We are, after all, not vassals of our employers.

We have to accept responsibility for our own actions, and wean ourselves from government intrusion. Running to them every time the outside world isn't perfect just feeds the beast.

You could say that wiht just about everything then, couldn't you?

Guy rips you off, and you should, according to your logic, chalk it up to experience. You're injured and someone's liable, you could sue, but hey, why tie up the courts?

The firefighter case isn't a frivolous lawsuit. Frivolous means it has no merit. The case has plenty of merit based upon the limited information already available, it is not different than any other sexual harassment lawsuit, it isn't any different from preventing someone from freely practicing their religion and, on top of that, it is a government entity doing it. If there was ever a case to bring to court, this is the case. This involves stopping the tyranny of government and punishing the government for trampling all over someone's civil rights.

I don't run to the protective arms of my government. I use the tools afforded to me by my government to rectify a bad situation and preventing it from becoming even worse.

people dont quit careers, they quit jobs. a firefighting is a career.
people get FIRED from careers...AND JOBS.
a career is a life changing goal or desire.
    jobs are income.
when you walk away from a career, its devestating since most spend countless hours and weeks and prep to get the position. once there, you tend to defend and protect it.
thus the firefighters are standing firm and enduring suffering for the sake of their life investment.
the lesbo chief.....SHE OUGHT TO BE ROASTED and sent packin out the door with her tail between her legs, or whatever else she puts there.[8]

No one was injured in this incident, thus frivolous.

Your comparisons fall flat. No one was ripped off. No one was sexually harassed by anyone with any control or power. Not one man among them (apparently) refused to participate on principle, rather they either did not think ahead and got their little feelers hurt; or are participating in a premeditated money grab.

Make no mistake, I find most of these Gay Pride parades to be disgusting. There is no power on this earth that could make watch one, much less march in one. But then again, I do not have an ulterior motive, and I do have a little self-respect.

I have no argument with you regarding the mayor, but the time to make a stand was before rather than after. For one they have no case as they were not in any way damaged, and were probably paid for their time. Secondly, there is no way that this mayor could have successfully disciplined the firemen for refusing to participate in a Gay Pride Parade.

No, they were not defending or protecting their careers, they are making a stand for easy money. It stinks on both fronts, but the firemen should grow a pair and move on.
