    Yep.

    C&P:

The Omega Man is a 1971 science fiction thriller starring Charlton Heston. The movie is based on Richard Matheson's 1954 novel, I Am Legend. The screenplay was written by John William and Joyce Corrington, and the movie was directed by Boris Sagal. It was filmed in technicolor with mono sound and ran for 98 minutes. The movie received a MPAA rating of PG in the U.S. The story was first filmed in 1964, under the title The Last Man on Earth, with Vincent Price in the lead role. A third adaptation of the story, I Am Legend, starring Will Smith, is scheduled for release on December 14, 2007.

the book is fantastic and the two previous film adaptions, The Last Man on Earth and Omega Man did not even come close to doing it justice. Other than new James Bond films, this is about the only movie that I am actually excited to see.

they weren't zombies. they were humans infected with a virus that made them extremely sensitive to light. in the original incarnation of I Am Legend, they were essentially vampires, but The Omega Man dropped that except for the photosensitivity. I can't quite tell what the affliction is in the new version, but zombieism or some permutation looks like a good candidate.

The book had a wonderful little episode where Neville (the hero) used the cross as a means of driving off vampires (pretty typical). At one point he came up against a vampire who was not frightend by the cross...It was a jewish vampire! If the hero of the book had been a Gun Broker member he'd have been screaming at that vampire for living in the USA and not being a true christian and destroying our established customs (at least for scaring off vampires).

Will Smith will never be Charlton Heston.

No matter how good the computer generated graphics are.
