Just saw two A-10's
I was out in my yard and saw 2 A-10 Warthogs fly over. I live in western Va. near Va. Tech, so I know these guys were a long way from home. We used to see them a lot before and during the first gulf war. I thought they were phasing them out? I sure wouldn't want to be a towelaban and be caught out in the open by one of these. Made my day to see them here on a holiday. God bless the United States Armed Forces!!!!!

The A-10 will be around for awhile longer, the AF has just started an avionics upgrade program for the entire fleet of Warthogs. 0 -
Seen em' fly at the airshow. If you were a bad guy you would be in big trouble. They can shoot the crap out of you and if they happen to miss they can turn on a dime and be shooting at you again real quick. 0 -

I ride dirt bikes over by the Yakima Training grounds in central Washington and have seen the A10 jets doing practice. Along with the A10 jets there are others flying around and its really cool when they drop below the canyon walls and scream past our camp site[8D] 0 -
I'm 5 miles or so from the end of the flight line at Barksdale AFB. We have a squadron?? of them here, so I get to see them everyday. Neat plane! Go to youtube and check out some videos of them. That gatlin gun is AWESOME.[8D]

Used to see them flying all the time when I lived near Clarksville. Neat planes! I believe they were set to be phased out around the time of the first gulf war, but they were so effective there the Air Force decided to keep them around. Much better at ground support work than anything else in the inventory. 0 -
I heard that the USAF wanted to scrap the A-10 so they could get more "real fighters". The USMC then asked for them. Marines said that the A-10 was an important ground support plane. Then rather than turn ground support almost entirely over to others, the USAF kept the A-10. 0 -

Even the Marines that fly the AH-1Z Huey Cobra admit that the Apache is the best attack helo in the world.0 -
Does the Apache carry as much ordnance as the A-10?
I can only imagine that the USAF wants to phase it out - God forbid they should have something in their inventory that came in under budget, on time, and performs as advertised.0 -

The A-10 has 11 weapons pylons and can carry an array of weapon systems to complement its 30MM cannon. I used to work them from 1991-1996. Before the first Gulf War they are being considered to be mothballed as well as drug interdiction missions around our borders. However, because of their awesome performance, numerous upgrades/TCTOs were made like Low Altitude Safety and Targeting Enhancement, Ground Collision Avoidance System, night vision capabilities, etc ...
When I left the flightline, I am told upgrades are programmed until 2020 (or thereabouts) ... however, there are so many changes since then. Nonetheless, it's quite an impressive aircraft even before all its upgrades.0 -
Heard them fly in and out of an Army Natl. guard base nearby. They scream! I couldn't imagine being on the receiving end of one of those.[xx(] 0 -
back when they first came out the big wigs did not like them.
but every time they were going to scape them, a operation came up, and they were the ones that did the job.

Can a helo take as much punishment as the A-10? I don't believe it. If'n my butt was pounding the ground, the sound of that 30mm GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR tearing up targets sho would be comforting. 0 -
The BUFF needs to be forward deployed so it can be used for close air support. 0 -

Anyone know where they might have come from? They came out of the north from the West Virginia line, at about 2000 ft. I know they are sub-sonic, so it must have came a long way. I don't know of a military airbase within 300 miles of southwest Virginia.0 -
Y'all oughta live out here by White Sands or one of the many bombing ranges we have in nM; I've watched B1bs, A10s, F4 Phantoms, F18s, A6s Flying Guppies, prototype Spookys, Tornados, Harriers, Tomahawks, and some I couldn't figure out WTH they were! The Melrose Range was hosting a bomb-in last year, and about 45 different aircraft were seen doing what they do best;I'd have hated to be downrange when most of 'em started their runs! Lots of those boutique aircraft are stationed here, and apparently, we train pilots from many other countries right out in the open in nM! 0 -
They sometimes bring them up here to Kansas to get them away from a gulf hurricane.I have seen a VCR tape of a A-10 pilot pretending to fire one off with a Bic lighter. They ain't pretty, but they sure are efficient.[^] 0 -

This is so the AF can maintain some sembalance of having a combat mission.
They don't even want the Army to have control of the UAV's.0 -

i have grown up around willow grove naval air station/joint reserve base here in bucks county Pa. i spent most of my grade school time staring out the windows watching the planes fly around . . . .and now they are closing the place down.
i turn into a big kid when i se the A-10s flying around doing there thing. i shall miss them greatly when they are taken away frm the 111th tac fighter wing that is stationed there
those A-10 are the most impressive planes to watch if ya ask me. since iam a Paang forward observer i have had the chance to see what that 30mm canon can do . . .impressive to say the least and i deffinitley would not want to be on the recieving end0 -

Its been a few months since I have seen an A-10,
But to day, at lunch what do you know. I saw 3 a-10's, I was out side eating lunch with a few good buddy's looking south to HAFB (Hill Air Force Base)I saw one come in and turn to land I was like cool there an a-10, the people that I was sitting with was theirs what? I was trying to explain what it was, there was #2 cool to for to day... and about 2 - 3 min, #3 turned in to land. Now that was GREAT !! ! ! ! ! !0
