Need to sell a gun or two

I have a gun project to finance.
I have a 1968 Remington 760 Gamemaster .243 with a decent scope to auction here.
Should I remove the scope beforehand?
How many pics should I have?
Should I have a reserve?
Start at 1c?

    The scope would have to be your choice, but might add a nice selling point.

    I allways start my auctions at the minimum I will take with no reserve. This way everything is up front and there is no guessing for the buyer.

    You will find alot of the guys (and gals) here will not even look at a reserve auction. I know I seldom do. And I don't see a point in a hidden reserve as it seems the seller is just trying to hide something and I as a buyer don't want nothing hidden from me.

    As far as pics the more the better!

    depending on the scope. But used scopes are useless for resale, but you could put it on another gun. But it makes a good selling point and you can get more out of it. People are think without a scope they will have to put another 100 bucks or more with it to get one. Depending on the pics, 2-3

    I'd leave the scope. It might be attractive bonus some buyers. I definitely wouldn't do a reserve. I'm not even sure why that is an option on auction sites. As stated before most people won't even look at a reserve auction and if they do they will e-mailing you to see if it is worth their time to bid. I know I would.

    I can do that. It just would not be a "hidden reserve" if I'm reading you right.

    Exactly! By starting it at the minimum you will take everything is up front. It is just like having a reserve but out in the open for all to see.

    Unless it's a TOP name scope don't expect it to make the gun bring a penny more. If the gun is worth $250, don't start it at $350 because you have Bushnell sitting on top. Most folks that will be buying your gun will either already have a scope or have one in mind and won't pay a premium for yours that they are gonna remove anyway.

    If it is a top name scope sell it seperately anyways, you'll get more for it.

    If you have no use for it you can let it go with the rifle, but I'd keep it. You never know when you might get a little 22 plinker and you'd already have a scope.

    lower end scope, leave it on the gun. higher end, either auction seperatley of add something to the auction like " scope not included in price, but may be bought by buyer for $$$.$$. if the buyer takes it, golden, if not, another auction

    as far as reserves go, i personally feel they should be banned from existence. imagine going into a store and selecting a piuece of merchandise. take it to the register and put the label price on the counter. cashier says "more" so you up it a few dollars. "more" etc. wopuldnt that be infuriating???? same with auctions online. you'll get better results by starting at the minimum you are willing to accept for the item. if you need 250 for it, theres your starting bid. if it goes higher great but if it gets one bid, both of you are happy.

    $1 starting with no reserve: dangerous territory here. you may have an item that is realistically worth 250. you start thye auction at a dollar with no reserve. severl people make a note of the autiion, but dont bid yet. maybe some do and the prices hits 10. and maybe those people who saved the auction with the intention of sniping it(hard to do here) collectively forget or have financial trouble or what not. now you got 10 bucks for your 250 dollar gun. now sometimes bidding takes off and you get way more than you planned but thats a hefty gamble. remember, unless you cancel the auction prior to closing, its a contract. you sell me your item for my highest bid(assuming i had the high bid), even if thats 5 dollars for a pair of matching colt series 70's.....

    BTW- It's a Older Redfield Golden 5 Star 3x9x40 that I bought new in '88 and looks very good on the Remington.

    I'll get it online soon.

    You're gonna lose $50-100 by selling with that scope on the rifle.

    Sell it seperately on Fleebay and you should get around $100 for it by itself. Doubt it will make the rifle bring an extra $100.

    To me, even doing that is NOT a real auction. Real auctions let the market set the value. To me, getting a bargain is the thrill. Do I always do that? Heck no. I usually get so excited bidding that the price goes higher than I intended, and usually higher than the seller would have taken on their low price.

    I say all real auctions need to start at $1 with no reserve.

    The only problem there is when I sell something I don't want to risk takeing a major loss.

    I'll start them at the minimum which would probly be what a pawn shop would give me if I took it to them. That I figure would be still so low as to be a steal.

    As of yet I have not sold any guns on the site. I do have one on the block now with one bid on it. It is also the same one that sold and the buyer backed out because his FFL did not want to accept from a private person so it got relisted.

    I have sold ammo and a couple scopes with no problem by putting my minimum as my starting price.

    I've even seen some amateur sellers here on GB either not familiar with guns at all, or not sure what a paticular model is worth.

    They will set the reserve abnormally high for the first few times and take the highest price offered from the 3-4 reserve auctions and either set that price as the "NEW LOWER RESERVE PRICE" or make that their 'starting bid'. [Some might start at .01 with a real high reserve then change that to their starting bid or new reserve]

    Just a suggestion.

    Or perhaps the blue book of gun values can help you?

    I don't have a problem with that, but it is not a REAL auction, at least not to me. I would dare say that 90% of the auctions listed as you say, I can buy around here for what the seller starts the item at. THen I don't have the transfer fee and postage to pay. That is not an auction. Just a "store" where the price is set, and can only be bartered up.

    I haven't gotten it listed quite yet. I have purchased a lot from Gunbroker, but have no experience yet as a seller. I know the approx. value though. I will give a heads up when I do as I see a few "shameless plugs"[8D] from others which I love to check out.
    It's kinda wierd being on the other side!
