Opinions on 2 Garands
So I just bought a new 1911 and need to ah, finance it so I can pay off the credit card bill when it comes. It occurs to me, I don't strictly need 2 Garands and might sell one. But here is my dilemma...
1. VAR barrel M1; muzzle pretty worn, throat probably as well. Sold to me as Service Grade by CMP in 2002 or 3 (I'd have to look it up). I've shot it a lot since then, and would guess it would now gauge rack or field grade. Nov, 1941 receiver. Finish is good otherwise, fresh crisp parkerizing, stock in nice shape with a few dings- let's say 75%. I have been thinking of having about 1/32" of the barrel removed and recrowning, or rebarreling. But I hate to part with a prewar receiver. Springfield receiver.
2. Greek HRA. I picked this up at Camp Perry as a rack grade, as the stock is thrashed pretty well, with what looks like a homemade rear handgaurd that is pretty crude. But the muzzle and bore were labeled as "1" when I got it. I'd have to verify this. The metal finish is nowhere near #1 above. Now here is the interesting bit: though a thrashed stock, it is all HRA. That commands a bit of a premium, though certainly less than a gun of WW2 vintage. Due to all matching parts I would really hesitate to ever rebarrel this gun.
So there we have it. On one hand I could rebarrel the gun with the VAR barrel and have a really fine shooter, but a pure miximaster. On the other hand I could have the HRA that is all matching but not nearly as attractive, in a crappy stock, with a homemade hand gaurd. Which would you sell do you think?

Good thought....perhaps just buy another handguard outright, and swap the main stocks between the two. And toss the handmade thing that some poor greek SOB must have carved with his pocket knife.0 -

Sell 'em both and use the money to buy one that would be a keeper/shooter for you.
