Keep Ban On Sunday Hunting

There are few good rationales for expanding hunting to Sundays. Wildlife management is not among them.
The legislature is weighing no less than four proposals to open private land to bow-and-arrow hunting on Sundays. Two cite the management of wildlife populations as their justification.
The Senate bill empowers the state's environmental commissioner to allow bow hunting on private lands "in areas designated by the commissioner to require additional management to control game species overpopulation."
It's funny.
Deer season is already more than four months long. Which means that, from Monday through Saturday for a third of the year (well over 100 days), hunters can kill to their hearts' content. Farmers who get special depredation permits from the state can kill deer all year long.
So what difference can adding one more day possibly make to the cause of "wildlife management"? We know the answer: none.
It will, however, make a difference to families and non-hunters looking to enjoy a safe, quiet Sunday in the outdoors.
Connecticut has outlawed hunting on Sundays for centuries. In Colonial times, the rationale was that it interfered with the Sabbath.
Today, the reasons have more to do with public safety and civility. Connecticut enjoys an extraordinary network of hiking trails - more than 700 miles' worth. Many of those trails are on private land.
With state officials campaigning to get more families outside to enjoy Connecticut's beautiful vistas and woodlands, legislative action to expand hunting to Sundays is out of step.

is the article saying that it isnt safe for people to hike or enjoy the outdoors for four months of the year because of hunters ? i am guessing there are thousands of people killed by hunters every year there ? haha 0 -
CT still has an assault weapons ban,it never sunseted.Colt is made here and some of their models I can't own.It's politicians like this that keep it going. 0 -
I guess some folks work 5 or 6 days a week. Kinda makes it hard to hunt while at work. Glad it is in Conn. [:)] Ought to be able to hunt 7 days a week in accordance with the hunting rules. [:)] 0
