Is it just me or does anyone else have weird gun dreams where you are forced into defending your life or someone elses life and your gun does weird stuff like shoot like it's loaded with sqibb loads or constantly malfunctions, or when you shoot an attacker it seems not to have any affect? Do I need to consider serious therapy or just shoot more. By the way,all of my guns that shoot weird in my dreams, shoot fine at the range, and have never malfunctioned,Please tell me what all this means...

We had a different name for "gun dreams" when I was a teenager - and my "attacker" was Stevie Nix [:p]

I used to dream that my handgun would not fire when I needed it for self defense. Would hit the primer, but not hard enough to set it off. Haven't dreamed that way in years though.

    Pop psych to the rescue!

These kinds of dreams are common with people who carry guns or at least have them around and count on them to keep themselves alive. I think it's just a basic insecurity about having what it takes to survive, focused on the item you count on the most.

I had one recurring one where a big bad-azz I'd had a run-in with on the job (talked him down, parted on a friendly basis) kept coming at me with a crow bar (from another incident with another dissatisfied customer) and I kept shooting and reloading until out, with the gun sounding like a BB gun and not having any impact effect. I distinctly remember after the first two shots I was really focusing on the sights and trigger break. The guy finally stopped and said something like "You didn't have to do that" before turning and walking off.

I've read a couple different after-action reports where the cops involved had these kinds of dreams, one who never had to "shoot for score" before and one old-timer who didn't trust his new-fangled issue autoloader. After they had successfully used their sidearms in self-defense, the dreams stopped. Not that I'm suggesting you try that...

Simple answer. You need a Smith & Wesson .357.

Mine seem to have awfully heavy trigger pulls. Can't seem to get the shot off.

loss of control issue...something going on that you have perceived loss of control of or cannot resolve to your satisfaction....pops out sideways...figuring out the real issue is the trick.....simply put, it is either a life changing revelation or just a brain fart...but don't dwell on it to much or your head will hurt

I have that sort of dream occasionally, either I won't have my gun with me or it malfunctions. Sometimes I successfully waste the bad guy in a clear cut case of self-defense but I get bummed out about the hours and hours of police reports to follow...

It's not just guns. In my dreams, if I have to use a gun for defense, it doesn't work or have the desired effect. If I punch, I have no strength. If I run away, I am in slow motion.

I haven't had such a dream in many years though. For some reason or other, my ex-wives have been figuring heavily in my dreams these days. Nothing erotic. They are just there.

Guns are in a LOT of my dreams. I think if you handle guns all day long every day....to dream about them has to be normal. Now the REST of what is in my dreams is plain crazy (but we won't go into all of that now will we.)

yes i have had a recurring nightmare for about 20 years

i'm in a specific gas station early in the morning, and it is being robbed, they kill the attendant, i pull a astra 44 magnum, and the trigger has a 200# pull, i cannot pull it, one of them points a gun at me pulls the trigger, i hear a bang and wake up

irony, my stepfather left me his astra 44 magnum when he passed, i now reside a half mile away from the gas station in my dreams, i refuse to go inside early in the morning
