Gunvault, does anyone own one or tried one?
I live alone far from anyone. Not too worried about anyone ever trying anything but do have some items of value in the house. I have several guns but none are kept locked and loaded and they are all in a main room in large gunsafes.
I would like to keep one pistol locked and loaded in my bedroom but want it discreet and only accessible to me or anyone I teach the code to.
I liked one that ran off a fingerprint, but they dont make a wallmount for it. I plan to put the safe in the bedroom walk-in closet so that noone but me will know it is there. Wallmount it so it can't be stolen. And want easy access for me.
I found this one that is a fair price but would like some real world opinion.

If you BOLTED it to an immovable object.

A friend of mine had one of htese and it seemed to work fine. I like the fact that it has a key that will open it if the battery fails. 0 -
I have one and it works well. I have a strong cable that I run through an eye bolt and use it in my vehicles when I want to lock up my carry gun. I only use a three digit code for faster access, peace sign, middle finger, trigger finger. Snaps right open. 0 -
I have one. I go the large as the small is pretty small. I have had it for 3 years and it does great. Have not had to change the batteries yet either. Pretty quick to get into but a little tough if you wake from a dead sleep. I would buy it again. 0 -
[8D]-Man, if you have kids or grand kids yes-you need that--

I don't have kids or grandkids, but do have a young nephew but he is hardly ever here.
But I do have friends over that like to drink. I don't want some drunk stumbling onto a loaded firearm.
As I said, i'm not really concerned with anyone attacking me or my house. The biggest problem would come from Migrant workers in the area to rake blueberries. They tend to bring drug problems to the area, this is from past experiences.
I have a CCW but never carry. I am very fortunate to live in a very safe part of the world. People still know right from wrong and when a wrong is committed, alot of times the police are never notified, it just seems to work itself out[;)]0 -
I have one, a GV1000, and use it. It isn't bolted down, but on the top shelf of my closet. I don't see how bolting it down is of any advantage, since the metal and screws are pretty light weight. It could be easily ripped loose.
This device is not to keep a burglar from getting the gun. It is to keep the kids or visitors from getting it, while leaving it quickly accessible to you.
I had a house full of kids and their friends at one time, so I felt the Gunvault was a good thing. I need to fix the wires to the battery box, but have put it off since I no longer have a house full of kids.0 -
I bought a Sentry gun safe---about 5' height, 2-1/2' wide---holds several long guns + several handguns + ammo, etc.---combination lock.
Found it locally on Craigslist for $200.00.0 -
I have something similar in my van,I bought one of the front loading key lock safes at wal-mart that look almost just like the one you posted,,I think its about 70 bucks,,I removed the front passenger seat and bolted it to the floor and then put the seat back over it,,I'm a sales rep and drive 70k a year so I have to use alot of oil quick change and tire places,,I can lock my gun up and not worry about anybody getting/stealing it while in a shop.. 0 -
I have a gunvault, and I like it. It may not be Fort Knox, but it's very solid and would definitely keep kids and drunks out of it. Yet, you can open it in an instant with the feel-in-the-dark keypad. I would recommend one. I would like to have the larger version, but the small version fits under my bed nicely, and the large one would be too tall. I'm thinking about getting a second one for another room in my house. 0 -
I got sa DAC Sportsafe from SPORTCO - I think it cost me about $50...It springs open when you key in your (Programmable) code. It has an internal light that shines dimly for about five seconds to help you get your piece out without backlighting you. You can program in other keycodes if you wish, and delete them as necessary. It has a "disturbance" alarm that is settable for sensitivity, that triggers a really annoying peeper. It also has a carry handle designed to NOT be comfortable, so that if someone manages to get the safe free of its baseplate (extras available), it will hurt to carry it far.
It has a Key open feature, if the power is off, your internal batteries have died, etc.
I have baseplates installed in each of my cars, and at two places in my house, and transfer the safe as necessary. I like it a lot.0 -
a friend of mine sales these, they are very neat, you install them in between studs, and when activated it shoots open really fast
