Going to the range with Mormons today.
Many of you know my family and I have been going to The LDS Church with our Mormon neighbor the past several weeks. Each Sunday between meetings (3 hours [xx(]) a little socializing takes place. Most of these guys have firearms. Many hunt and many shoot for recreation. They invited me to go to the range today. Should be fun. My neighbor (who I beleive to be a pacifist) is not going. Good guy BUT I think he lives in a world of denial. He has a great family that he should be more willing to protect at whatever level that he is confronted. There is a bad neighborhood about 5 blocks away and sometimes the bad element slips into our streets.
Anyway I will let you folks know how it goes and what everybody is shooting. It is an interesting culture and I am impressed with the level of dedication. May have to give up the bath-tub beer brewing. [V]

Have fun....
I think some might be surprised at how "normal" mormons are...0 -
The last time you posted about your neighbors, the entire posting suddenly disappeared. I hope you have better success this time. Joe 0 -
Few Mormons I know own guns which suprised me since they're all about turning the other cheek (at least that's what I thought, kind a like a distant cousin to Amish). I recon since it was the man Jo. Mo. Browning who brought them to Salt Lake City. I believe Jo. Mo. made a few guns[:D] so they as a collective has to represent their homey.
Personally I think they're rather two faced since only the whites can enter and kick it with god but they'll let you believe you can too (even if you're only mocha). Also taxing members (what was it) 10% of your earnings before local and state taxes. Also if I ever heard a salamander yapping I'll have that thing on ebay with a quickness. Not sit there and take dictations. (That always reminded me of Loony Toons with the singing frog.
I can hang out with them folks but they'll never get me to listen to what they're selling. I figure it's just another cult, like peddlers of Watchtowers.0 -
Have fun. Keep in mind that Mormons are only one "m" away from being MORONS! [:p][:p][:p][}:)][}:)][}:)]

as i happen to be mormom i don't believe you guys understand our religion maybe you should study it some more before you open your traps maybe read john 3;16 it never said whites only it says the world no we are not a cult we believe in the word of god and the bible thank you very much 0 -
What ever happened to seeing folks for what they do rather than what they believe? I did not see a single Mormon listed in the Al Qaeda rolls or ever hear of a Mormon strapping on a bomb vest and blowing up a school bus. The ONLY major religion that needs to clean its act up is the Islamic nuts. The entire Islamic gene pool needs chlorine and an aquacide.
It seems there is very thinly veiled bigotry against Mormons on this board.
Shame on those that cast stones, tend to your own religious issues and let others tend the theirs.0 -
When "others" advocate their beliefs on an open forum, then expect stones to be cast. Some folks are more tolerant than others. 0 -
why does their religion pose a question, don't they worship the same god of christian faith? 0 -
Does every thread about Mormonism require deletion? Can we not degenerate into insults and degrading assessments of the LDS Church this time, please?
BTW- I lived in Utah for 4 years and found that every Mormon I met owned guns. The city where I lived owned and maintained a public range that was free of charge for anyone to use. Gun shows were held in university gymnasiums and the campus police chief taught the concealed carry classes on campus. I took a trap shooting class at the local college. Most schools and businesses close for a couple days at the opening of deer season as the whole state goes hunting.
Utah was without a doubt the most gun-friendly state I have experienced. Hell, the Wal-Mart not only sold guns but also powder, bullets and primers for reloading. I never saw that anywhere else.
PS: 99% of the Mormons I knew were friendly and never caused me any grief at all. They tend to be honest and hard working people whose children behave properly. I don't share all their beliefs but so what? This is America, isn't it? Aren't we supposed to be free to worship as we chose?
And shouldn't all of us be able to do it without someone else calling our religion a "cult?" That term is extremely insulting and demeaning. If you you believe it, that's your business, but how about keeping that word to yourself?0 -

OMG,.......life as I have known it is over.
I agree with SP![xx(][;)]0 -
yes sp it could have went without the remarks, this is one of many reasons i personally question religion period, the my god is better than your god syndrome appears to be worse in the christian faith than any other, then squabble about how it is done 0 -
just remenber when you die and go to heaven not to let the baptist know your there or the methodist or church of god or any of the other correct religions after all Jesus only loves your religion only 0 -
"It seems there is very thinly veiled bigotry against Mormons on this board."
I don't think it's veiled at all.

I think the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been defined as a "cult" by some federal agency, at some point in time.
So...what's wrong with being a "cult"??

TOLERATING......doesn't mean you have to LIKE IT.
That said, I don't mind mormons at all. They are only a LITTLE more annoying than other christians.
I even had a few on the payroll a while back.
And don't you get sarcasm where you live? Or do they not have it there?
If you see smiley faces, with a tongue out, it means it is SARCASTIC. Just so you know.

Whatever they are, I don't care as long as they don't try to force me to believe. Only the Islamists do that, I believe. There was a time when the Mormons would kill you if you stepped on their land, see Mountain Meadows massacre. Been some killings over controversial documents. I tend to think they are like some others that are a little extreme, practice some deceit to get members. Started by one man who had a "vision". I think the whole Utah thing started as a real estate scam by Brigham Young after Joseph Smith was killed. I don't know why exactly the people of the time hated the Mormons so much. Wars over anything have never been the death of as many people as religion. "Murder" and "religion" just do not belong in the same sentence. 0 -
GO shooting with them. I've never met an anti-gun Mormon.
Remind them every FIVE MINUTES that their hero, Mitt Romney is an anti-gun knothead.

Be open, Mormons are people too! One of our best friend is a Mormon family. Very nice people/family, esp for a doctor. Religion was never a factor. Our sons are best of friends. Their eldest son calls my wife and I, "MOM" & "DAD" - an honor to us. BTW, we are Catholics! 0 -
Maybe all the bigotry I see makes it hard to catch the odd sarcastic well meaning statement.. I am not a Mormon, but I have noticed a not so hidden dislike for the religion on this message board (including many other non-white non-Christian, non-neo-con-rightists individuals). Being a gun person it pains me to see the gun hobbyist subculture portrayed as bigoted close minded people, that's the image that makes us look like "nuts" instead of hobbyists.
If your intent wasn't meant as an insult to an entire religion I am sorry I read it wrong, my bad.
p.s. "I even had a few on the payroll a while back." Is that sarcasm too?

Religion and politics are some of those things that will never be accepted by everyone, so either do what you do and don't talk about it. or talk about it and accept that not everyone will like / accept / tolerate it.
just my 2 cents0 -
i think everyone that doesn't believe the EXACT same way as i do should be tared and feathered
oh! wait, i'm a non-believer so tar and feathers for everyone that does believe[:D]0
