formatting 100 oops 1.0 MB floppy?
Sorry. My 100 MB Zip disk was in the same container as these - I had a "senior moment" when posting the thread. These are 1.0 MB
Windows XP Pro says it cannot format these disks for me. In the formatting window the drop down gives only 1.44 MB as an option.
Will I have to find a friend running 98 to get these to work?

What is a 100 MB floppy? Never heard of such an animal. 0 -
Haven't used windows in years, but with 2k/XP it should be done thru the disk management in "manage your computer", then pick "discs" or something. To get there, right click on "my computer" and then pick manage
BTW - don't know what happened with the brass (finally checked my gmail) but I'll make more for ya soon and send it out.0 -
Never heard of a 100MB floppy, but if that is indeed what you have, most likely it's because the drive is no compatable, not the operating syatem.
I have heard of 100MB tapes or ZIP disks. Different drives though.0 -

1.0 is not 100, it's 1MB and 1.44 is 1.44MB. The original 3.5 floppies were 720K, and double density (or high density) disks were 1.44 (or double the 720K). Never heard of 100MB floppies, and no one makes the low density any more, so you usually only have one choice.
Seems I do remember someone came out with a 2.8 floppy, but since CD's were already here, they flopped (pun intended).0 -
You'll have to find the proper drivers/software Henry, otherwise, the computer will see it as a regular drive.

I scrapped out a computer for my BIL and saved the 3.5 disk drive because it was a "Super Disk" drive. It lists it as a 120 mb disk drive which will read and write 1.44mb and 120mb discs. I saved it to put in another computer but haven't been able to find any of the 120mb floppy discs. Have you changed computers since you have used these discs? Maybe when you used those discs, the computer had a "Super disc" drive in it, and the computer you are using now does not. I was going to use it for a security issue since most people do not have a super drive and therefore could not run the discs.

It is totally not worth it! It is cheaper to buy a CDRW or DVDRW and the media that to buy even 1 10 pack of the 120MB disks.

I have that sort of drive but I find the 3.5 inch more convenient to stick in a pocket.

I've decided I don't want to deal directly with fleabay but I had a couple of items I wanted to list via a buddy that uses them. I was going to shoot the photos, put them on the 3.5 and take them to his house to upload.

I gave 10 cents (total) for 8 of these disks NIB, so buying something else is probably not cheaper than finding somebody running Win98 to format them.0 -
there is a such thing as 100 mb floppy disk guys, you need a 100mb floppy drive to use it, it came out about 10 years ago, and was short lived like the beta cassette tape 0 -

It's not a Windows 98 thing. They still have to have the correct drive. A standard 3.5 drive will not format them even if it has windows 98, and if you don't have the Super Drive, you can't use them, even if they are formatted.

When you get tired of playing with floppy's and zip drives.
Move up to Memory Disc before you start pulling your hair out.
You may find that in the long run they are both easier to use and cheaper.

Buy a USB Flash Drive. No larger than a stick or pack of gum. 1GB flash drive will cost you $10.00-$15.00. eBay is full of them plus you can buy them just about anywhere.

Just get a flash stick. Size of a cigarette lighter and much more storage space. You can get a 4 gig one for about $20.

100mb disks were better known as zip disks!
no a zip disc was a zip disc, they where alot thicker, there was a 100mb FLOPPY same phisical size as a 1.44 called "the super floppy" it lasted about 6 months before the zip drive came out, there was also a 2.88mb0
