12 Gauge Home Defense
I bought some specialty 12 gauge ammo a few years ago. They are Flechettes and Armour Piercing Slugs. Are they still legal in the South?

You don't need any crap like that, and why on Earth would you need armor piercing slugs? Stick to standard 2 3/4" #4 or 00 buckshot loads. They will disperse ANYTHING that you want to leave your house. 0 -
in before the flames ! ! 0 -
Figured I'd buy them before they got banned 0 -

Yap", and dont forget some of that ammo is really hard on your chamber and barrel even though its not rifled. Ive seen a few that had deep indents/scrapes in them from shooting ammo like you speak of. 0 -

Not flaming you. Really. But consider- you have shot a goblin crawling thru your bedroom window. you are now in court. that's the jury sitting over there, looking at you. Now, do you want the prosecutor talking about your flechette loads DESIGNED to strip the very flesh from the bones of that poor, unfortunate lad- or would you rather YOUR lawyer had the chance to talk about how you, in the gravest extreme of defending your family, had to rely on your BIRD GUN loaded with the smallest standard size of buckshot? your choice. 0 -
ok i purchased those exact rounds in the mid 80's, and then tried them at a friends cabin on the meramec river one summer, we quickly came to the conclusion that they are over priced novelty items at best
flechettes, sure they where designed for going through brush, we shot them at a 2x10 at about 10-15 yards, they did not penetrate very far, and some hit sideways, we then put the board behind a very small sapling to see how it would penetrate the brush as it was intended, 2 made it to the wood the rest was deflected elsewhere, at that distance #4 or 00 would be much more effective
ap 12 gauge round, sure it is a sabot steel round, but was so weak it would not penetrate a refrigerator door or the 2x10, a good deer slug it much more effective, and legal
dragons breath, oh! man that is neat, at daytime you see hardly anything, but we managed to start a small brush fire, our dumb asses where lucky it was not during the dry season, that night though we took the remaining rounds and shot it across the river at about 60 yards, it lite up the entire bank on both sides, and was a sight to behold, it resembled a shot of napalm for about 3 seconds
those 3 items are illegal in my state now, which makes me no difference, while i wouldn't want to get shot with ether, i would not consider them for self defense at all, you would be better served with trap rounds0 -

You need to get some "DragonBreath" too.
You load the gun, so your first cartridge would be flechette, then DragonBreath and an armorpiercing.
Then you might top it off with a rock-salt-cartridge.0 -
As someone else said, not worth the legal hassles even in a righteous shooting.... 0 -
A 12 ga with #6 high brass birdshot would be an excellent choice for home defense. Makes a heck of a mess at close range and is relatively safe to your neighbors.
Ever see what happens when a person gets hit with birdshot at close range? Kind of like Humpty Dumpty, all the kings men ain't gonna put that together again. Try it out on a water melon and see what you think. Body armor might stop the birdshot from reaching the body but it will knock them down and they ain't gonna jump right back up, give you a chance for a follow up shot, should you need it.
Load it so the first 3 or so are birdshot and the rest with buckshot or slugs. If the birdshot ain't working, the slugs should do it, if not, you can use it like a club. Personally, if I emptied a 12 ga in it and it's still coming, I'm out of here in a big hurry.0 -
You can use them to hunt down today's super animals like the flying squirrel and electric eel. 0 -
I haven't seen an elephant around since I started using AP, flechettes and dragon's breath.
Must be worth every penny.

Okay, now you just need some cluster bombs and nightvision gear, some grenades and decoys. Never can be too prepared for the zombies!
FCD;You forgot about "CLAYMORES"!!

Remember the guy that wanted a night vision scope mounted on something or the other for home defense? He reminded me of Buffalo Bill on silence of the lambs[:D]0 -
