1911 trigger

I have a Springfield 1911 that has a terrible trigger. Midway has some kits listed to solve the problem but they suggest a qualified gunsmith do the install. I have been working on my own guns for almost 40 years and would like to try it myself. What do you guys think? Are the kits that hard or technical to put in? I know a lot of you are home smiths yourself and I would appreciate your comments.

  Tom, If you can strip a 1911 you can do the swap, it is just parts replacement. Not hard at all.

  I've seen the same warnings on parts for 10/22s and Wolff springs for my GP-100. It didn't stop me, and they work just fine.

  1911 is a different beast, unless you have the proper stones, micrometer, and jig, i wouldn't do it, just take the one you have and have a qualified gunsmith that specializes in 1911's do it, you will save the money of a drop in because it is not drop in at all by using your existing trigger
  
  1. it can go full auto on you
  2. thumb safety is directly involved with the hammer and sear, it may not function properly afterwards
  3. if your safety malfunctions, your hammer may also follow through each shot, it may or may not cause a secondary full auto, it may cause it to become a single shot
