St. James Wine...

Just wondering if anyone here has ever heard of it. It's produced fairly close to here and i used to get some on occasion. A fairly inexpensive wine, but even good with dinner.[:)]

I used to joke.."Whatta mean cheap wine..$8. a gallon!!".[;)]

Just wondering how widely this stuff is sold.

    I think i remember it from a long time ago. In the NE? I think i remember drinking it in South Joizey..[;)]

    If you're talking about the Saint James Mo. winery the original owners are old customers of mine, are of the highest integrity, and are very proud of their product. I'm no wine expert but I've drank their wine and it taste fine to me. It's said that Missouri wines have taken their place among the Worlds best. It's not a large operation so I would guess most of their sales are fairly local.

    BTW, they sell the grapes they use to make the wine at the Winery and roadside stands on I 44. It may or may not be too late, they stop selling them around this time of year.

    Yes, St. James Mo. I'm no connoisseur either, but always thought it was pretty good. We kind of know the people that own it, and they do seem pretty decent.[:)]

    Yeah, i think they've recently sold their vineyards..

    I like the schoolhouse white.

    prevalent here in central illinois, and down in southern illinois.

    they did switch to twist caps though. I thought that kind of cheapened it.

    It's made here in Missouri. They sell it for Wal Mart for about $5 - $7 a bottle. I used to live just a few miles from the winery up in Alexandria Bay, New York and they made great wine. I figured I'd try something from a local winery here. They make a lot of incredibly sweet wine. The closest thing to dry wine I can find from St James is the "semi-dry". I only drink dry so I won't touch that stuff again. It's local and it's pretty cheap. I'm sure it doesn't win any awards.

    I had a glass of their blackberry wine. I almost hurled. Way too sweet. Sweeter than any "dessert" wine that I've ever had. Worse than Mountain Dew sweet.

    agree totally. the semi-dry is all I can handle too.

    Another Missourian here. I have had the velvet white and pink catawba.

    I used to buy the wine when I lived in Connecticut. It is reasonably priced. I now live about 40 miles from them. The ice storm of last year just about destroyed the wine crop in Missouri for this year. I don't know if they were able to salvage any at all. I know that all my fruit bearing trees did not produce this year.

    Hmmm, i'm about 45-50mi. s/e of st. james..outside the little town of boss.

    I didn't realize all the Missourians here. We ought to all get together on a Saturday and take a tour of the winery! [:D]

    I pass through St. James,MO at least once a year and I always stop by the St. James Winery. Thir blackberry wine is easily the best blackberry wine I have ever run across.

    Never tried it, well not for 25 years and back then it was mostly dessert wine. I generally go to Augusta to buy Missouri wine at the Mount Pleasant winery. Used to get Stone Hill Winery product as well. Despite having grown up in Boone County, I generally avoid Boone's Farm.

    Hermann is the place to go, stone hill, adam puchta, and hermannhof, it's a few miles up 19 from cuba close to you, and almost equal distance from those up highway 70
