My offical apology to the Blacks
I just read that the reason that Black enlistment into the armed forces dropped off by 50% because employment opportunities have opened up to them...And here I was thinking that is was for another reason......
Well I'd just like to offically say I am sorry for thinking what I was thinking!!
Hopefully some off these employment opportunities open up for the Whites in the near future too!!

It is a popular (especially amongst ultra Liberals and Democrats who hate the military) misconception that military people are uneducated, lame losers who can't get a job so they join the military. See John Kerry's comment a few months ago.
The fact is most people join because they want to serve their country, better themselves for future employment, or see the military itself as a career option. A few sign up because job opportunities are limited due to location or personal situation, but these volunteers do not constitute a large percentage of the military force.

His comment was intended to insult blacks because he insinuated they were not joining the military because they are cowards and don't want to be in the military now that there is a real danger of them being killed or wounded. The article he claims to have read may be insulting to the military but his mention of reading it is not.0 -

the truth of the matter is Since the beginning of Iraq
Black enlistment Down 50%
Women enlistment Down 20%
White Enlistment Same as before!
Hispanic Enlistment UP 63%
I just came across this today....And as bad as it may sound the people that we don't want in this country....Hmm Well it would seem that they are the most likely to stand up and fight for freedom!!! Take away the hispanics and you have a 13% shortfall on the enlistment requirements....
Bottom line if your motivation as a people is serving your county those numbers shouldn't drop in a time of war. If anything they should go up. Obviously 13% of the pre-war folks main motivator was a job!
And yes their are plenty of good men of all races in the military... Some are even Islamic..A group that gets slammed around here quite frequently.
But for a group to come out and say enlistments are down because some miracle opened up some magical job market exclusively for their race.
Well either it is total BS or someone is sure as heck being very discriminatory against the other races in their hiring practices/

Those statistics makes me wonder how much fluctuation there normally is over the past 40 years. Sounds like a lot, but it is only showing a before and after a certain date.0 -

Get real Enlistment is down because the possibility of getting shot so high...Either you are brave or you are not...I see no reason to cover it up with excuses and whitewash And I see absolutely no evidence that an exclusive job market has opened up for any single race!!
Someone needs to get their story straight here and it ain't me... One day the story is 35% unemployment among 18-19 yr old blacks... the next there is an overabundance of job. for that same said group.. Some one is find it awful hard to get their story straight.0 -

My son, who is on his third tour, has a BS in Criminal Justice. He is not stupid, uneducated or unemployable.

Both my son and his best friend were pursuing that field as well When the buildings came down. There is no doubt in my mind the motivation of these folks that are entering the service since 9-11.
But then that only goes to prove my point. The numbers are falling with in certain groups because the motivation for joining was somehow different. Anyway come Hell or High water if your motivation is serving your country a job opportunity elsewhere is not going prevent you from enlisting ... Hell an NFL career wasn't enough to stop one man!!!
