tiger direct, thats where I got my parts.
I am very happy with them, you can build from bare parts kits.

    yes, there is: http://www.pricewatch.com/

make sure to read reviews on sites like www.tomshardware.com, www.mbreview.com, and just google for some reviews and comparisons of various components.

last time i put together a box it cost me good couple of grand with a single cpu and no video card (i had one already), so if you want a box for gaming think of spending at least $2K.

I've heard bad things about tigerdirect.com. newegg.com is pretty good. pricewatch.com is excellent for finding the lowest price, but a) you'll get it all from different places and b) some of the merchants it comes up with are a litle misleading sometimes.

if you put it together yourself, it should be for performance and probably more than 1500$, cuz the way the OEM's have it going nowadays, you simply can't beat them on price on anything less than 1500$. maybe even up to 1800-2000$.

if you want to find out what parts to use to build a nice computer, goto tomshardware.com and look for articles on complete computers they have suggested to build. instead of comsidering each component seperately. saves a lot of time and hassle.

I buy all my computer components from a Frye's retail store. Over the last 31 years that I have been assembling my own computers, I've found that I really hate buying components on-line.

If I get a part that is Dead-on-Arrival, I don't want to wait for turnaround by mail. I want if made right, right now.

The sales staff at Frye's is in general, technically incompetent.

If you are on a budget, you really get more bang-for-the-buck if you buy one already assembled - from Costco, Staples, even Wal-Mart.

www.tigerdirect.com - Extremely quick shipping and prices are great.

You'll find several of their items have rebates on them. Don't let that worry you though. This is the one company I have always got my rebates back from.
