Rare Gun Used in Robberies Worth More than Loot

ORLANDO, Fla. - Police in Orlando say a man charged in multiple armed robberies would have been better off if he had just sold his gun.

Detectives say Webster Cooper's 1940 Colt Woodsman Match Target Bullseye Pistol is the same weapon spotted in a series of surveillance videos of convenience store robberies since August.

Orlando Detective Matt Deem says the gun is worth about $1,800, and Cooper didn't total that much money in all the robberies.

Cooper told investigators he bought the gun on the street. If no one comes forward to claim the gun as stolen property, authorities say it may be destroyed.

    The police pick out the creme dela creme and sell the remaining junkers sometimes in auctions to the general public with all the rules regarding background checks, etc. applying depending upon local laws for allowing this to take place.

    Duh-oo, ya think? I've seen several 'private collections' accumulated by our intrepid protectors. But, why not?

    a hot gun is worth 50 bucks, it don't matter if it was john waynes, or john brownings, i don't know to many people who would have bought it for 1,800 bucks with out legality being proven, it says allot about how they view fire arms collectors
