I just love the sound of.....
....A big, honkin' radial engine up close. He's spraying soybeans for aphids. These guys used to a real rarity around here, but with the growing aphid problems, I've seen them almost everyday that's fit for spraying. Very talented pilots with steel nerves.

Seen a few over this way about 3 weeks ago. They are fertilizing all the pine trees that was planted after the hurricane. 0 -
with our altitude 4800' to 6200' where spuds, barley and wheat are grown, the old radials are being replaced with new turbo props, the guys can haul more and have some awesome pulling power at the end of the fields.
But I agree great fun watchin and listenin!0 -
Noticed the big number of 16 passenger turbo-props now
flying in Alaska. Radials will soon be a thing of the past.

Zip, were those the single or twin Otters? that you saw
They is even a new Beaver that's turbo'd and I heard it's really something on floats.
I think Jack Barber at Ak air taxi, Rust's, and even Ketcums have the new turbo'd ones.0 -
if he is crap dusting why doesn't he do it parallel with the road and power lines? 0 -
They were singles up at Ketchikan - a whole bunch of them fly the tourists out to Tracy Arm - but you see them all over the place now. I think Anchorage and Fairbanks have a bunch of the twins. Times are a changin!

Zip, as long as there are people who love them, radial engines will never disappear.0 -
Used to watch'em up in NJ as a kid.One guy used to ,(if same crop/chem. on both sides of the road)go right under the wires![:0]Cool how he would just stop, and start the pump, about 75' before the road, and drop the chem spray skip spot, right over the road...

i can't believe no one has corrected me yet, so i will expose the joke
when your in a car and you see a crop duster, point it out to everyone by saying "look it's a crap duster", someone will always say "don't you mean crop duster", you reply: yes but he is doing a crappy job0
