    B/c jacketed ammo is not safe for all weapons like those with polygonal bore like glock. It is also dirtier, and not worth the "savings" you can do better than those cabelas bulk ammo and prices

    winchester white box at walmart is a good deal, and not reloads, and no shipping. last time I checked it was cheaper than that cabelas stuff.
    Also, I am not aware of a manufacter that says reloads do not void a warranty. this does not mean there bad, just something top be aware of.
    some commerical reloads like "ultramax" are some of the worst crap I have seen for sale, will seating deapths noticably different round to round
    Georgia Arms makes alot of good reloaded ammo, so does black hills (but hard to get now)

    Probably comes down to leading of the barrel and that can vary from gun to gun. FMJ are probably a bit cleaner overall, if that matters to you. Some guys don't want to deal with leading at all. Other view it only as a slight nuisance. I load my own cast bullets and see very little leading in the guns I shoot. Word has it that Glocks are more succeptible to leading that can cause some serious problems when using cast loads but I don't have one so I cannot speak from experience.

    That is what I've been using(Winchester white box from Wal-Mart.
    I'm just trying to see if I can save money on bulk.

    thanks, I own a Glock(and love it)...so I'll stay with FMJ

    I am a glock lover also. the non jacketed ammo will deposit lead in the corners of the polygon, until the bore is reduced in diameter to unsafe levels

    But I love a 6 of my semi-auto. pistols in my collection for different reasons.

    i have found in both my 40'S that if the shape of the lead bullet isnt pretty close to that of a
    FMJ that the lead bullets will not reliably feed out of the mag and into the chamber. that is why i shoot and reload FMJ.

    Rainer, make's some pretty affordable FMJ slugs for reloading and both my 40's love it. i can reload and shoot HP for the same cost as most off the shelf ammo

    Who has the very best prices on bulk factory 40 cal. FMJ ammo.?? (until I can get into reloading....I'm gathering equipement, but have NO space to setup where I currently live)

    I'd buy 1,200 or more rounds, if I had to....I'd like to beat Wal-Mart fot their Whinchester white box 40 cal. 50 round box price, Right?
    (or would shipping make it nor work cheaper?)

    walmart has good prices on WWB, hard to beat that esp, when you just want 100 rounds from a nearby store

    Central Texas.
    But have no "space" in my tiny one bedroom Apt. with animals, room mate, and ALL our Stuff. Very, VERY tiny(and jam-packed!) place to setup reloading now.

    Just have NO room(yet...for about 6 more months, maybe)

    That is very close to what I pay at Wal-Mart, without shipping.
    I guess I may have to find a local shooting group that buys in large bulk for their members to divide up for less for target practice.

    Anyone know of any like that in central Texas?

    FMJ also makes for a good self defense load, if you believe that penetration may be valuable to you, as in shooting from inside your car, through the door.

    Not good for the ears, and not a recommended practice.

    even if you order 20,000 rounds, you will not get a substanial break of the price per box

    Keep an eye out for sales @ bass pro, dicks, etc. sometimes they will sell up to 10 boxes 1/2 off as a promo

    You can reload a premium cartridge for cheaper than you can buy factory fodder from the store. Lead bullets are cheaper than jacketed, but like everyone said they aren't always safe to shoot in some guns. Handloading also gives you the ability to "tune" your load to your specific gun, where as factory ammo is typically made to be fired thru all guns of a given cartridge.

    It doesn't take much space to reload. If you have room for a plastic washtub, then you have room to reload. Pickup a used dillon sqaure deal B cheap, even if its broke. You can send it back to dillon, they have a no B.S. lifetime warranty, and its brand new when you get it back. Mount it to a 2x4 and use a couple of c-clamps to clamp it to the kitchen counter. When your done, just put it all back in the wash tub.

    I don't think I've ever met anyone who regreting getting into reloading...

    lead poisoning, allot of ranges are banning lead due to employees get 50+ lead levels, so far this year i know 6 shooters that have reached 26+

    i have about 9,000 rounds of .45 scw's, as soon as there gone {july-aug} i will not buy them anymore
