I'm getting more awards from the Army!
I have recently been notified by the Army that I am recieving 6 more awards (Medals for those that have not been in the service) for my time durring Desert Storm!
I do not have the list in front of me but 2 of them are unit citations ( Presidential Unit Citation & Meritorious(SP) Unit Citation)!
It is kind of a shock since I have been out for over 12 years!
But I will gladly take them![:D]
I just think it would be apropriate to get them in a cerimony rather than just getting the medals in the mail![:(]

Yea, but I still did not get my heart!

at least they are still honoring you sir. late maybe, but they still recognize the job you did and honor you accordingly. i wonder though would this help raise your benefits? that would be nice. 0 -

There's a whole lot of sick and severely disabled vets who's injuries were combat related...and none of who have a purple heart. Medals mean little to me. The way they are awarded after a major conflict like DS is a joke. A lot of folks did not get theirs and some jerkoffs got awards they should not have...
Congrats BTW!0 -

No it will not raise my benifits. I allready get over $2800 a month for my VA disability which I am at 100% at.0 -
well, i could hope anyway. personally i think we should pay our vets a lot more than what they get. 0 -

In one way I thank you for that comment!
But also since I was only in for 3 years I think I am paid quite well for my time since I will get no less that $2800 for the rest of my life and that I am assured that my kids will get a college education all from my benifits!0 -
Now you're going to have to build a new shadow box. [:D]
Glad for you.0 -

Congratulations, Mr. done. We should have some kind of ceremony here on the forum! Can anybody think of anything? 0 -
Congrats Kevin, It's nice to see that they are finally giving credit where credit is due. 0 -

I blew out my knee's jumping from the top of a fuel tanker when we came under artillery fire.
I also have Gulf War Illness (documented) and a host of other little things.
I do not deny by the definition that I do not qualify for the Purple Heart! But also think since the knee's were a direct result of combat that it should be included in the definition.
There are alot of deserving Vets who should have been awarded this and never have!
But I would gladly give all my injuries back to have a normal life again also!0 -
That ain't right! I guess they expect you to climb down slowly, wearing a fall protection harness and maintain three points of contact wtshtf. 0 -

Like you, my brother was one who should have received a Purple Heart but didn't. He received 3 compressed vertebras in his neck when the hatch of his M-113 closed on his head during oncoming fire. This was during the "friendly fire" incident when an apache helicopter fired on his squad. The argument was that he was not injured by enemy combatants nor was his injury sustained directly from the attack. They did give him the Bronze Star for saving several of his fellow soldiers after the attack.0 -

By definition you almost have to have some metal pulled from your body or be KIA to recieve the heart!
I agree in a majority of cases that this is not right, but it still is the regulations on this!0 -
Congratulations! 0 -
GRD, thank you for your service but I must respectfully disagree with you in regards to the purple heart.
In my opinion it should only be awarded to those who receive wounds from enemy fire. To say otherwise cheapens the award.
I served in the Marine Corps for 4 years as an 81 mortar crewman. As a result of my time in Iraq (no chance to put earplugs in) my hearing has been somewhat damaged. Nearly all veterans have some scar, phyiscal or emotional, that they carry with them. They can't give the medal to all of us, or there would be no point in having the award to begin with.
Some time ago I saw a picture of a young Marine who had lost an eye and a hand in Iraq. Proudly displayed on his dress uniform was the Purple Heart. He deserves that medal....I don't. With all due respect, neither do you.
I do want to clarify that that this in no way is an attempt to say you do not deserve the disabilty benefits you currently receive. You were injured in the service of your country and now your country is obligated help you.0
