I don't really do the Homemade chili. I use Carrol Shelby's Chili Mix.

    It's downright fantastic.

I have one that's a five bean / five meat recipe that is really tasty.. Usually folks can only eat 2 bowls because it's so filling..

Not too hot , just a gentle burn when done....

I'm going to be making a pot tonight. I'll post the recipe after I make it because I never make it the same way twice.

Sorry GRD, I didn't see it yesterday. The chili that you make, is it real spicy hot or mild. I have never seen carroll shelby's chili kit around here in fla., I will have to look for it and try some of these recipe's out. I like a really hot spicy chili and the wife only wants it mild, so I will have to make two pots.

As I put it down there it is not too hot. But if you add the cyan and dried red peppers you gan get it hot.

That Carrol Shelby's is good stuff. It is normally in the area with the taco seasoning and such.

    Chili Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
2 medium (1 cup) onions, chopped
1 small (1/2 cup) green bell pepper, chopped
1 rib (1/2 cup) celery, chopped
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
2 (15-ounce) cans kidney beans, undrained
    1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder
    1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
    1 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

    Garnish Ingredients:
LAND O LAKESr Cheddar Cheese, sliced, cut diagonally
Cook ground beef, onions, green pepper, celery and garlic in 5-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until meat is browned (10 to 12 minutes). Drain off fat.
Stir in all remaining ingredients except cheese. Continue cooking until mixture comes to a full boil (5 to 8 minutes). Reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until flavors are blended (30 to 40 minutes). Top each serving with cheese triangles.

the first recipe i use on a regular bases. the venison one i haven't used yet but plan on trying sometime soon. here is the venison one.

    VENISON CHILI

    3 T vegetable oil
    1 large onion, finely chopped
    2 large cloves garlic, minced
1 small hot green chilie pepper, minced (optional)
1 1/4 lb venison, cut into 1/2" cubes
3/4 lb ground venison (or ground pork)
28 oz can of crushed tomatoes
    3 T red wine vinegar
    3 T ground chili powder
    2 T ground cumin
    2 T Worchestershire sauce
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper, plus a pinch
1 large green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
2 tsp salt or to taste
freshly ground black pepper to taste
10 oz can of red kidney beans, drained
3 T Masa Harina (or fine cornmeal) mixed with a little water
into a smooth paste for thickening chili

Heat the oil in a very large skillet. Stir in the onion, garlic, and
chile pepper. Saute over med-hi heat until the onion is just tender,
    about 5 minutes.

Add the cubed and the ground venison and continue cooking for about
four to five minutes, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the ground
meat is no longer red. Add all the remaining ingredients except the
beans and the masa harina (or cornmeal). Bring the mixture to a boil
then reduce heat to medium and cook uncovered for 30 minutes,
stirring occasionally. The stew should be fairly thick.

Stir in the kidney beans and the masa harina and heat through. Taste
    and adjust the seasonings.

    Makes 6 cups.

    Hk-91, what is masa harina?

Masa harina is a specially prepared corn flour used in Mexican cooking to make corn tortillas, tamales and other corn-based doughs. It is available in most large supermarkets in 5-pound bags.

Hobbyguy, try some fresh horseradish sometime on the side or just add some to the mixture.

Wow.....didn't realize Chili could be so complicated.

    My "recipe" consists of

    2 lbs ground beef
    4 cans condensed tomato soup
    4 cans water
    2 cans chili beans

    Add (to taste)
    Garlic powder
    Onion powder
    Salt
    Pepper
    Chili powder
    Tobasco sause

I call it Grant's easy ass chili
