OK, tell me I'm and idiot for considering it.
Was in the pawn shop during lunch today. Saw a Phoenix semi auto 25cal (HP-25) made in Ontario, California, USA. Price was right, pistol was new, they are a gun store as well as a pawn and are a dealer for this firearm.
It seemed solid...tight, heavier for it's size, slide worked well, all metal construction. Odd but I could not operate the slide with the magazine out. The safety had to be engaged to release the magazine and it could not be disengaged when the magazine was out.
I could pick it up for $210.00 out the door after the 3 day waiting period.
So...Is it:
just another saturday night special???? (not necessarily bad)
in the same category as a Jennings etc.????
worth the money???
a case of you get what you pay for???

I have found out the HP-22LR is 'liked' more than the HP-25 and most would say go to a 32 ACP rather than the HP-25 or stay with the HP-22. As well the price before taxes and fees should be closers to $150.00. Out the door price should be closer to $195.00.

My brother and I both have the 22's. Cool little plinkers. Never had a problem with them. They only like standard velocity rounds, not that Hi velocity stuff. You should be able to get that 25 for less than 200. I paid 119 for the 22. 0 -

They are 130.00 brand new.
They are also about one rung above a Jennings...Well maybe a Half Rung.
Not a good gun for anything other then casual plinking as I have found them to be very unreliable. I have only had the 22 though and not the 25.0 -
For $210 you can buy alot more gun than that thing. My 2 cents. 0 -

Well we have two of the HP-22's we shoot all the time around here. I know the quality is not the best, but the kids sure do love to sit at the bench and shoot those little pistols. We shot them so much, we broke the slides on both guns, sent them back and the factory repaired both of them, free of charge. Mine have lifetime warrenty on them. So say what you will about them being junk, but I only paid $90.00 each for them 12 years ago and they still shoot just fine. That's pretty cheap shooting. And they are made in USA!

Keep your eyes on the auctions. You can get a good used Kel Tec P-11 for that price. I think I paid around $135 apiece for two excellent condition used Kel Tec pistols back in 2001. 0 -

Maybe it was a dremel. there was a thread on personal engraving on guns and you were talking about working your personal guns over real good either with a dremel or a woodburner, I cant remember. I was pretty sure it was you though. I'll go back and see if I can find it.0 -

I have the 22 version, decent pocket pistol. Definately above a Jennings. Unfortunately, it is too safe - can't cycle the slide with the maine safe on, cant put main safe on/off without a mag in the gun, can't, can't drop mag without putting the main safe on, etc. Then theres a little drop down safety on the slide as well.
Does go bang every time, minte of pie plate at 20 feet, haven't really cleaned it yet and it has 500+ rounds of early 90s vintage poorly stored very waxy dirt cheap ammo thru it.
Solve the safety issues and it may be good in 25 - centerfire is supposedly more reliable than rimfire, and you can at least get glasers and other exotic but functional ammo in 25.0 -

I already decided that price was too much for the quality I would be getting. I do know I can get a CZ 52 for less and I bought a CZ 70 in the past for less. I was just kicking it around for a plinker and a close in varmint pistol. Still got those pesky, sometimes rabid, coons to deal with. Right now I deal with them with the 12 GA.
I am just looking for a tackle box pistol that will discourage the snakes and such.

Never had any problems with it. NEVER! Maybe i got lucky. or maybe i just know how to shoot. Who knows. I personally have never had a jam. I let my sister in-law shoot it and it jammed. Actually it was her first time shooting, and it was due to limp-wrist. But i am here to give a good review on the firearm. Good accuracy, good reliablity, good price. Great backup weapon. Saved my life before come to think of it. Now dont talk poop [:)] 0 -
