Immigration bill killed. Now what?
So the Immigration bill is dead which makes me happy. Now what do we do with 12,000,000 + Illegals? Pretend they dont exist and leave them alone or really start defending our borders and deporting them as we should. Does our congress have the guts to do this? Hell no. Even though the American people want it done. It should be done and done quickly.

Maybe more states will follow the lead given by Oklahoma.
Oklahoma knows it will be cheaper for them to pass AND ENFORCE their own state laws, rather than rely on federal law, where they KNOW the feds are NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING.
If more states follow suit.........

Immigration bill WOUNDED. I seriously doubt it's dead. The Mexica-America people want it BAD. It'll be repackaged and slipped into other bills and passed in the dead of night. 0 -

You make a good point Joe. The importance if the legislation passing was to prevent the Congress from actually having to do anything about these 12 million illegals. If the bill passed and they were given amnesty Congress was off the hook form making any really hard choices about what to do with all of these people. In spite of the rantings and ravings we read, most of the folks here illlegally stay well under the radar by working for cash, not using public services, have no credit and generally keep a low profile. As a result it is damned hard to track them down in a country like the United States where is is very easy for anyone to disappear or blend in with the scenery. It pretty much comes down to everyone in this country getting a passport or dragging the national ID idea back for another look. Stopping people on the street for questioning or beating down their doors and dragging them out of their homes kicking and screaming will not fly with the US public and will have less support than the war in Iraq! Amnesty was the easy way out...Now the options get harder. 0 -

Pull up to construction sites, farms and packing plants in Florida, Texas, Chicago, NY and Minnesota in trucks with ICE on the side with lights and sirens.
Nab the runners, I'd guess there is about 1,000,000 employed there.
Remember; to GET citizenship a foreign National needs to show proficiency in speaking the English language. If you ask someone what day it is and he can only say No Comprende or "praise Allah" then he is NOT a US citizen; QED.
At that point he better have papers or a green card.
STOP giving drivers licenses to non documented humans. No papers no license. If they try to get a license deport them. within 10 years the problem would be greatly reduced.0 -
With a Presidential approval level around 30% and a Congressional level of just half of that, one may conclude that this Government has not the competence, credibility, or confidence of the American people necessary to act on this critical issue. Let them just secure the border, and leave immigration reform to the next Congress and the next President, or the States. 0 -
Well we could all start asking are reps in D.C. to start funding the laws already on the books.It only takes a few phone calls aday to get their attention. We could all put are local news papers to work, just inform them that on a local construction site you counted over fifty illegals.When you spot a bunch of people looking for work at home depot , tell the manager you were harassed by them.Ask your fire department how many people can live in a two bed room home. I'm having my den reroofed this weekend, i've asked my nephew , ( the state bull ) to stop by. I think we could all have some fun. You all might think i dislike illegals , but the legal ones have built a mini mall with all the signs in the mexican language. Enforce laws already on the books.
Every time anyone touches any government agancy, ask if they can prove they're legal. Deport (or jail and then deport) all who can't pass muster.
Build the fences.
Amend the "born in America=Instant citizen" clause in the Constitution.

I think we all know what will be done now. Absolutely nothing. At least nothing that will amount to anything.
If the question is what should be done, the answer seems pretty simple and straightforward to me. The first thing to do is close the border to unauthorized entry. The authority and money for the "fence" has already been appropriated. The money has been there for a while. Two miles of fence has already been built. That only leaves approximately two thousand miles to go. It makes me wonder how serious Mister Chertoff is about carrying out the will of Congress and the American people. Israel, a much smaller country with less assets than the United states, has pretty much completed their wall in much less time.
The illegal aliens who stay well under the radar by working for cash, not using public services and keep a low profile and "blend in with the scenery" are the smallest part of he problem and should receive the least amount of attention until the problem is under control and manageable. Even though the deadbeats, public services parasites, high profile and criminal element are a very small minority of the illegal aliens, there are plenty of them to keep everybody busy for years to come.
It isn't necessary to go looking for illegal aliens, or "check papers" on the streets, or kick in doors. Plenty of them come into contact with various law enforcement agencies on a daily basis. When an illegal alien is picked up for a misdemeanor or low level felony, there is no requirement for them to be charged with the crime. Just deport them that day.
As we run out of the criminal element, there is plenty of time to address the larger population of illegal aliens. As they come into contact with various government agencies or law enforcement, process and deport them. If a few million slip through the cracks, I don't see how it would make the problem worse.0
