A VW! My wife has a Jetta, loves it. Go to this site for a wealth of info: http://forums.tdiclub.com/

If you don't do your own wrenching, the TDI is equal to a 35 mpg gasser money wise although they will go 500,000 miles so really you only depreciate out one car. Is yours a stick or auto? Year?

The 05 Passat is an auto (this is why it's for the wife)
The 01 Jetta also a TDI is a 5 speed manual
The 99 Ram, Cummins Turbo Diesel is also a 5 speed manual

As you can tell I like diesels as much as I like guns.

Change the auto trans fluid at 50,000 and timing belts under the recommended mileage. TDI's also fill the egr's and intakes with soot which must be cleaned out every 75,000-80,000 miles. Make sure you run the auto hard once a day to keep the turbo cleaned out. The snow screen should be checked regularly as they do plug up too, as well as the cabin filter. Taking the vent from the fuel filler necks will allow two more gallons of fuel to be put in. Use full syn oil and go 10,000 miles between changes. All this info and more is available on the site I posted above.
