what size wire for 220 #6 or #8
wiring is for a ac and also dryer

  Wire size is determined by amps, not volts. What is the amp draw rating of each unit, and don't try to run them both off of the same breaker.

  both will be off 30 amp breakers each and wire will be ran about 60' for the dryer and about 20 to 30' for the ac.

  of the two choices you have, it would never hurt to go with the larger wire.

  For 30 amps, #10 is fine. Copper #10 is actually rated for higher amperage than 30 amps (other than some types of wire for direct burial, like UF) but is limited by the National Electric Code to a 30 amp overcurrent protection device - in this case, your breakers. And longer runs can require a larger size but 60 feet is not a problem.
  
  So, if you have the wire already, use the # 8 and save the more expensive # 6 for when it's needed. If you're buying, get the # 10 - copper is expensive right now.
