Anyone know where I can get a case or two. I want to start the SHTF storage of food and would like to get some.

I have some MRE's for a few days worth of rations and water at home if needed, I think any responsible person should do this. The government is busy, help might not come for a few days. I recently saw a new company called www.readymeal.com Those are the ones that the American Red Cross is pushing right now. I don't know if they are just like MRE's or not, but they look similar in content.
I was also doing some searching on the forums about Mre's and folks crap hit the fan preparation for ww III or something like that.
My question is this, did c rations used to really have cigarettes in them? Why don't they put cigarettes in them now I wonder?
Do they still put tabasco sauce in them now days?0 -

IT SAYS THAT IT WAS PACKAGED IN 2008. [?]IS, HOW LONG ARE THEY GOOD FOR. IT ALSO SAYS INSPECTION DATE IS 2011,WHAT DOES THAT MEAN[?]ANY WAY ,I HAVE THEM STASHED FOR A RAINY DAY(SHTF MAYBE)WHO KNOWS WHAT

I have some w/ an inspect test date of 8/2004prolly ok I think they were stored in a cool climate anybody know where to get a decent deal on these things now? 0 -
Jab...givette here. Web-search MRE's. Lotsa info. Lotsa ordering places. E-bay customers are aware of the inspect date, and the "old" stuff isn't selling. You can now get cases with two or more years to go before the "inspect date". Joe 0 -

Just check with some of the nut cases who laid in several cases for the Y2K crisis. I'm sure they are still tripping over them in their basements or garages. 0 -

In 1971-72 we were eating C-rats and K-rats in nam. We started tracking the dates on who ate the oldest. Someone had one from
1939, most were from the 1940's. Heard the shelf life of
MRE'S were ten years if kept in a decent enviroment.0 -
I recall them C-Rats when I was a kid back in the late 70's. My dad's friend brought in a case of them and man did I love those with the chocolate cracker cans. If I look hard I may still find that white opaque spoons they came with laying around the house[:D].
I remember the freeze dried stuff which was in between the canned rations and the MREs now that stuff was bad. Freeze dried pork stick but the freeze dried fruit wasn't bad.
As for MREs the day they disco-ed the Chicken Ala King and made them smaller in portion was a sad day indeed.0 -

Well I guess I've been classified as a nutcase cause I have some MRE's from Y2K. Still eating them when I need to. Tuna w/noodles are not good anytime but I've tossed all of them now. Got a bad pack 2 weeks ago but it probably wouldn't have made you ill just had an odd smell. These were 2-5 years old in 1999 and kept in a cool basement since. Some of the chocolate is oxidizing but is edible. Most everything else is good as new. 0 -

Man, I've got two or three cases that are at least 10 years old. Some older, in the OD Green packaging.
Plus two cases of CD Survival Crackers from 1962.[:D]0 -
i had one in the back of my van for 10 years, through summer/winter, it was still good except the crackers tasted like bug spray 0 -
MRE's do spoil if not stored ina cool place
I got sick after eating an MRE from the 1980's caused me to vomit0 -

I actually gained weight on C Rats. Course they were only twenty years old then. [:D]
The cigarettes burned a little fast, but otherwise they were OK.0
