Different stations are still giving different info. Some are saying he was apprehended by police, others say he was killed by a security guard.

Why would a church want an armed security guard.

The female "security guard" was a volunteer member of the church trained for security work. To answer Doug's question, this church has had problems before. Does the name Ted Haggert ring a bell? He was the head pastor until he stepped down over allegations that he engaged in sexual activities with a male prostitute. There were demonstrations and protests at the church before that happened. That is one of many reasons they have armed "security guards". BTW, many of these "guards" are plain clothes. You won't know who they are until its too late. As the saying goes, "concealed means concealed".

That church is huge Doug. It isn't illogical to have a security team for a place that large this day in age.

Take a look at the stories posted on the Colorado Springs Gazette website (www.gazette.com/). They're quoting the senior pastor as saying this female non-uniformed security guard "...has a background in law enforcement" and was just one of several church members who serve in this capacity.

He says she had stationed herself in the lobby near the main entrance due to the church shooter in their area still being on the loose.

Looks as if their "security guards" are actually just those members who can legally carry concealed. Sounds good to me.

Yes, what I am hearing is that this was a security volunteer, who carried concealed. Apparently this is a huge church, and there was something like 7,000 people in the building. With those numbers, it is prudent to have someone present who is equipped to provide security. At least for the collection.

Bottom line, there was someone with a gun ready to handle a problem -- and she did. Too bad there wasn't one in Omaha, the week before.

I am anxious to learn more about this incident, and whether it was somehow connected to the shooting in Arvada several hours before. Wde had two kids from YMAM at the house for dinner last night, and we were obviously all concerned about this developing story.

    There is Evil out there.

so you might want to check the news again if you're interested. the story is developing.

Was the "Security Guard" also shooing an "Assualt rifle?" The one I saw illustrated on the tube was a lever action assualt rifle.

Maybe your morning paper stated this, but the local paper where this incident occurred quotes the church's pastor as stating it was a female church member in plain clothes and caryying concealed.

    Txs, you are correct. However....

The RTKBA means we can ALL carry legally. This business of "permitting" such a thing is only ackowledging that it is a privelege, not a right. [:(!]

The liberal media cannot stand to report that a common citizen stopped a killing spree using their own firearm. The media must, at the very least, give such hero some offical "title" such as security officer/guard (the media actually prefers that only such saviors be government law enforcement officers) to deter people from starting to think that common citizen have the right, duty and ability to protect themselves using firearms.

Hopefully we'll get an interview with her at some point. That would go a long way towards eliminating the confusion

The senior pastor was on TV this afternoon. He said she was a Church member who volunteers to be a security guard. He said they have two services on Sunday morning. She goes to one service as a regular Church member and acts as security guard at the other.
