SC Property tax did go down again...
Don't know where the state is getting the money but hey I like this... Taxes 1st year on our new home were suppose to be around $2200 bucks a year. State did the reduction and it went down to $868. Not bad... This years just came out.. Down again to $675. That is what I call progress.

Yikes, wish ours was that low and declining! Property taxes in Texas run much higher, primarily because we do not have a State Income Tax. They have to get their money from somewhere. 0 -

Not ours. In the last 10 years or so, mine doubled to about $3000.00 a year. Sales tax is 6% and the governor just raised income tax. In Michigan, we are taxed out of our minds.[V] 0 -
i live in california and we need to pay for illegal immigrants so taxes keep going up. 0 -

Yup, I know Bud. He lives about 6 miles from me. I used to live in town but moved out about 12 years ago. I stopped in his office quite frequently and talked with him and the others there. Great bunch of folks, but most (like me) have retired in the last few years. I would love to move out west but my wife is still working here and is tops in seniority at her work plus I would miss my family, most of who are still in the "Detoilet" area.0 -

Not necessarily true,v35. Our state gov't decided to cut taxes,in spite of what the rest of the country is doing. In the mean time,property values here are soaring. Go figure.0 -

SC has some good politicians (*gasp* I can't believe I said that) and administrators. Also, although it is known in some circles as a "poor" state, it isn't. It is progressive, has lots of jobs, and for the most part, has some fine people who work hard.
Some of your taxe money almost surely finds it's way into the wrong pockets, but in general, it is well used.
I lived there most of my life, and only left to be with my family in my reclining years. I wish Tennessee law makers were even HALF as good.0 -

Next time you buy something, check the sales tax, its 6%, 7% in some counties.
Income tax is also relatively high at 7% (even Tax-a-chusetts is only 5.5%).
16 cents per gallon of gasoline.
Also, SC spends some of the least amount of money on roads per mile of any state.
With less goods and services provided by the state, it can get by with lower property taxes.0 -
When I lived in New Jersey the Real Estate Tax was so high they billed it by the month. They knew if they billed it by the year not many could or would pay it.
In Virginia Real Estate Tax is a county tax. Who gets the bucks in SC?
In Virginia we have an Income Tax, Sales Tax, Real Property Tax and Personal Property Tax (vehicles). The one which takes the least bite but pisses me off the worst is when you buy a cooked chicken at the grocery store you pay 2.5% Food Tax, 5% Non Food Tax and 3% Prepared Food Tax on the same damn chicken.0
