The Crap was Deep
Went to a gun show today. Only show I go to. No beanie babies. No jerky[V]. Wanted some jeky. Anyway, I aimlessly wander through the three poll sheds looking at everything and just absorbing trying to keep an open mind. Not looking for anything particular but just looking for something to catch my eye.
One guys tables wrap around the end of the isle. He has the tables on both sides and sits on the chair in the middle. Most of his stuff is miscellaneous junk, which is fine because treasures can be found in a guys miscellaneous junk. Anyway, the dealer is talking to some guy and I can't help but eavesdrop.
The dealer says "Yeah I could sell on Ebay, but I don't get return business there. A $700 rifle here can bring $1,000 on Ebay, but it's a one time sale and I don't get the return business." I had to look up from the table and see the customers reaction. He was buying the line of bull.
First, we all know how gun friendly Ebay is. Second, who cares about return sales. A sale is a sale. It doesn't matter is joe buys from you 5 times or you sell to 5 joe's. Simple logic says the more sales, the better, it doesn't matter where they come from.
Little things like this amusement me. Makes it worth the $2 to walk through the door.

Repeat customers are not just about the sales. I'm a constant repeat customer at my local gun shop, and most of the time all I buy there is .22LR ammo. There are times I go in there just to shoot the breeze. It's always nice to have good customer relations, and you don't get that without repeat customers. Repeat customers are more likely to tell their friends about your buisness, thereby bringing in new customers who may become repeat customers, and starting the cycle again. 0 -

Wise beyond your years! That is the fun part of visiting the smaller individual gun shops, get to know the owner and drop in for a chat and a cup of coffee. Not too many of those type of shops remaining around the larger cities.0 -

or the guy who sold me the KA-BAR, told me it was made from AUS-8A steel (really 440A)...
or the guy who sold me the 13-shot hi-cap clip that shrunk to 10 shots when I actually tried to load it...
or the guy who sold me a pre-ban assault rifle, during the ban, for $1200, that REALLY WASN'T!! [:0]

Not sure how many repeat buyers can be found at shows though. Now, if
the had had a shop locally it may help, but how many actually seek
out the same sellers at shows..?0 -

To this day I still hear; 10mm, thats a pistol cartridge not a revolver cartridge. They don't make a 10mm revolver.[:0] I also seen some kid looking at the Glock display saying "You got one in winmag?" I stood there waiting to hear the dealers answer. This is a story for you guys, I live in NY, and I just won a rifle on the auction. So I needed to get in touch with an ffl dealer. I found one locally. I called him and then went to his place of bussiness(his home). He said to me "no problem, 25 dollars plus tax". I agreed and got his copy of the ffl along with my money and sent it to the seller. Later that week the seller sent me the ups tracking no. and I knew the date the rifle was coming.. I called the local ffl person and told him the rifle will be there tommorrow after 5. This guy tells me no problem. Well the day the rifle came I called this guy, (he works out of his house)and he tells me "I don't do business after 5pm,and I'm going to be doing something all day tommorrow". (This guy turns into a Dr. Jeckyl, Mr. Hyde) I said your ad said you are flexable to my hours. Then he gets mad and tells me he will send the item back to the seller. After the heat dies down he tell me to be there at his home tommorrow at 9 sharp. I get there, and he already has the rag on. He said if the rifle doesn't have a copy of an ffl in the box you don't get the rifle. I said you can always call the seller and he will fax you one. Even though the seller didn't have to send him one. Plus he charged me 14 dollars for a safty lock.....beware not all ffl holders are your friend. This guy was as sweet as pie. I kind of got the feeling that he wanted my rifle. 0 -
I do understand repeat sales from a local business, but guess I see flea market guys different. Anything I buy at a flea market table I buy with expectation I'll never see the guy again. 0 -

Translation: I have to get out of the house or I'll go nuts. The moon is full and my wife turned into Janet Reno. I hope she turns back to normal by the time I get home especially since I came here with 15 firearms and I'm coming home with 20 and no money.0 -
