Reached my End of Service date...now what?
Yesterday was officially the last day on my military service contract. No more time in the sandbox for me!
Will I be getting disharge papers in the mail? If so, when?

You have to send me all of your guns in order for me to send you your honorable discharge papers. It says so in the fine ink, it looked just like a smudge on the corner of the backside of the paper. 0 -

you're going about it all wrong......you're supposed to tell me your wealthy father was murdered and you need my bank account # so you can send me all the money, along with the discharge papers0 -
The Personnel office at your losing unit should have already arranged to send it to your forwarding address which you should have left with your unit. You should be getting a DD Form 214 in the mail. If this wasn't clear when you left your unit then I would call them. Are you talking about active military service or were you simply coming to the end of your 8 year Mandatory Service Obligation? You won't get any paperwork in the mail if you're simply talking about finishing up your 8-year MSO. 0 -
idsman75, the way I read it he has finished his obligation. Somebody should send him the "suitable for framing" Honorable Discharge.

EOS for ACDU or Res?
when you get off ACDU you should have gotten your 214. if you were in the reserves, you will get your "reserve certificate"
im not sure what you mean by discharge papers?? your 214 is your "discharge papers"...actually "release from ACDU" papers...
who were you with and what MOS. i was with 2/4 as a 03XX and a 5711. also sailed with the 13th meu....

Sorry if there was any confusion. I meant my actual discharge papers. I completed my active duty in '03. I just completed my 4 year inactive term on Sunday.
I was under the impression that I'd get a piece of paper in the mail saying "Cpl Grant York is now Honorably Discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States"

joe: are you refering to the Army or Marine Corps? I was in the Marines.
BTW: I want to thank you for your service. My Grandfather fought in Africa, Sicily, and Italy as a rifleman before wounds forced him to come home.
We lost him to cancer a few years ago. He is sorely missed0 -

Yes, of course guns are evil. They go off by themselves and spray bullets everywhere, even when left alone on the kitchen counter totally unloaded.
HOWEVER, since I recognize this fact, it shows that I am a responsible adult and I know how to tame the beast and arrange for them to be disposed of in a mature manner.

No. You don't get any paperwork indicating the completion of your MSO which is your Active Duty time + IRR time = 8 years.0 -
If I don't receive any paperwork regarding my discharge, how am I supposed to prove I got an honorable discharge? As far as I know, that isn't indicated on my DD214 0 -
You already have all the paperwork you really need if you still have your DD214. If you haven't received a Certificate of Discharge yet, you should get one in the mail shortly. You shouldn't have to do anything or contact anybody. The Army's equivalent of BuPers should do it in the course of routine business. If you haven't received it in six or eight months, get the phone number from Idsman75 and give them a call.
The only use I know of for the Certificate of Discharge is put it in a frame and hang it on your "I LOVE ME" wall. I have six of them and nobody has wanted to see one yet. In fact, it's hard to force anybody to look at them. Turns out the only person interested in my "I LOVE ME" wall is ME. [:D]0 -
When I was separated from active duty in Nov. 1968, I received in the mail a manila envelope with a form I was requested to fill out and return. The instructions included the statement that the form had to be submitted for me to receive the "Framable" Certificate of Discharge, upon the completion of my 6 years. 0 -

Looks like he might have to make the phone call then. I took the easy way out and stayed in twenty-eight years. That way they just hand them to you every four to six years.0
