Kansas has an unclaimed properties agency at the state level...you can check in & they also have a booth at the state fair....works great ...got back $$$$ from a settlement action i didn't even know about 0 -

This wasnt their money to begin with so how does it leave a hole in the STATE BUDGET?
Someone answer me this. If I am given a gift card for $100 and I forget about it for 2 years and the state goes back and claims 60% ($60) of it, then does that make it only worth $40 then?
If so, then the person who gave it to me should be able to claim theft by the state as they gave me the funds and I never agreed to relenquish said funds.0 -
I don't understand why people give "gift cards" to begin with. Why give somebody a card with varying amounts of restrictions on it, they can spend for $50.00, when for the same amount of money you can give them a $50.00 bill they can spend anywhere, anytime and it doesn't expire.
What you really need to look out for is the state confiscating your bank account. If a bank account goes without transactions for a certain amount of time (usually seven years, but varies from state to state), the state can, and usually will, simply take the account.
I used to think if I had a checking and savings account at the same bank, if I had checking transactions that would protect both accounts. No so, according to SunTrust Bank. You can protect your checking account and lose your savings account at the same bank during the same time period.0 -

medic, it gets even better than that. Depending on where you buy the card and what the terms of the card are, some of them go down in value over time all by themselves without the state getting involved in it.
Some might hold all value until used, but some lose a percentage each year until worthless.0
