    Not all Germans in the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, and Wehrmacht Heer during WWII were Nazis. Most were just soldiers, sailors, and airmen who were caught in the middle and were following orders.

    As for the picture, cute but of poor taste.

    There are not a lot of older Polish people (or Russians or Jews)who'd find that photo carries a lot of merit. My Polish mother, who lived through the occupation by those same cat lovers, would have been one of them.

    What's the big deal. A German soldier that still has compassion and humanity? Why is that surprising? I would much rather send to the gas chamber people who drive slow in the left lane, people who talk on cell phones while driving, or stupid forum members than innocent dogs or cats.

    The simple fact that that photo is interesting at all is because we are all caught up in the historical mind-set.

    From a photographer's viewpoint, it is good. Shows compassion amidst utter chaos. Could've easily been a GI sitting on a Harley '45, instead of Wehrmacht on a BMW. Joe
