    Nope, but I knew a couple people that had to have pallbearers hired. One was a military funeral, one of the guys on the firing squad leaned over and whispered to the next guy, 'I thought they were going to have to screw him into the ground'.[:D] Dave

    Nah. I figure if they're dead and there's no afterlife, then they'd never know. And if there is an afterlife, then;

    A) They're in Heaven and will forgive me. So what's the fun in that?!!

    OR

    B) They're in Hell, and I wouldn't want to risk putting out the fire.

    I just got back from my trash dumping trip. Just as I got out of the truck the hard driving rain started. I was instantly soaked to the bone. There was nothing to do but continue dumping trash and continue getting soaked to the bone. At first I was a little irritated with myself for not finishing this chore before the rain started. Then I thought "I've been wetter than this under a lot more miserable circumstances." Then I thought "This is good experience in case one day when I'm dead the word gets back to GB."

    At death, my judgement of folks is over. I might spit in their face while they are alive, but I put and end to everything at death. I wouldn't spit on their grave.

    But there is one SOB that I go by once in a while to check that he is really dead.

    You reminded me of when I was at Receiving Station, Norfolk, Virginia. When you find yourself at a Navy Receiving Station you get some kind of make-work job so the Command can claim everybody is gainfully employed. I was a Barracks Master-at-Arms. We had a First Class Petty Officer who was working for the CACO (Casualty Assistance Calls Officer). His job was to attend funerals and ceremonies, visit families and things of that nature.

    Somehow a funeral home had the ashes of a sailor who had died at sea, and after a pretty long time nobody had claimed the ashes so the funeral director contacted the Command and wanted to get rid of them. The order came down the chain of command until it got to the First Class. He was supposed to pick up the ashes, take them out to the widows house, thank her for her support of her husbands service and turn the ashes over to her.

    He went out to her house, gave his speech and tried to present the ashes to her. She said "Is he in that box?" The First Class said "Yes Mam." She said "Are you sure he's in that box?" He said "Yes Mam." She said "Good" and slammed the door in his face.

    That box went back up the chain of command one link at a time, everybody trying to talk the widow into accepting the ashes. When I finally got my orders and went to my ship, the Receiving Station still had the box of ashes and they were trying to figure out if they had the authority to burry the ashes or send them out for burial at sea, and if they did, who would pay for it.
