Duck Hunting
So apparently 3 in twos threw a full choke will decapitate a blue wing teal, Just so you know.
Great weekend in the marsh, shot 7 ducks all teal. I shot four of the 7 with a party of three guys myself included. Havn't shot at ducks in almost 6 years, but apparently I have still got the knack for it.

How many of you take for granted you duck hunting? How about your quail hunting? How many of you always bag a few deer every year? This year I didn't draw a permit for deer, no problem. Went out to the state run duck hunting ponds, they were filled with what smelled like sewer water!I gave up on pheasant hunting. I guess its time to give up on duck hunting. Quail hunting is two hundred miles away. It looks like I'll have to get used to fried or boiled clays. What ever you do, never move to NM.Are nut house runs the game and fish. 0 -

Just got back from Gueydan Lo. and what a great experience. Great hunting, limited out each day. I'm from Wisc. and the food sure beats cheese & brats! Only local small restaurants but what great food. Anyway, used to duck hunt awhole lot on the Ill. River near Peoria and haven't for 10 years or so. Just had to share this as it was a real treat for me. 0 -

I can feel your pain. I live in Florida, but i am originaly from Maryland. Growing up there... in a time when the hunting was good and urban sprawl hadnt reached us yet .. was terrific.
Many things have changed and mostly for the worse when it comes to hunting and our gun rights in general. Like i said, i feel your pain, and we are not alone, many sportsman here feel the same way.
However, I am writing this to you to encourage you to not give up without a fight. Let's not let the SOB's see us just keep retreating and be content with our memories. You have wriiten us< so be sure to write that bunch in your state capitol. Write to your senator and congreesman as well. Write to everybody! This forum is a good start ... but keep the press on.
Someone once said ...'All is needed for evil to triumph ..is for good men to do nothing" ...... So true !
Keep us posted and you have thousands here that will help.

victor, I feel your pain. I grew up in MN where duck opener is a state holiday. From there I went up and down the east coast and didn't have much of an opportunity to hunt. Then I ended up in Western Pennsylvania, another duck mecca. Now I am in northern GA, and haven't been able to hunt them at all. I do get to hunt deer and turkey, but I really miss ducks and pheasants.
As I have said before, I am always willing to share what I have with others (as I do not have any children), so if you are ever in the mood to hunt in GA, let me know and I will do everything I can to help you out.0 -
Ever since I started college I hunted every chance I got. Now school is currently taken over my life. I might get to do some hunting during thanksgiving. One thing I have found is the people i used to hunt with do not go anymore. Dad for some reason doent go anymore. Uncle recently lost all his firearms and can not hold a void card anymore. Brother in law has two kids I find it hard to go and find someone to go with. Have to say when I was younger it was all about shooting. Now I am just glad to take my shotgun go for a walk and enjoy myself. 0 -

handgunhtr: There is pretty good duck hunting in central Georgia, I don't know about the northern part of the state.
My buddies used to seriously hunt wood ducks and mallards. They would stake out beaver ponds with decoys, etc. Also they would take float trips down the little rivers and flush up the ducks.
Seems like they usually came back with two or three ducks.
When I left, 12 years ago, they were just beginning to hunt Canada geese, they got several of them the last year I was there.0 -

Actually there is a public waterfowl hunting area near (within an hour) me, but I just can't stomach the fact that I have to pay $5 to park and then be surrounded by a bunch of people that I don't know (and also don't know their firearms safety standards).0 -
nope.. I love my duck hunting.... season opens saturday and I just saw 6 big birds flying into one of the ponds! Of course it will look like a highway with all the idiots heading in there early saturday morning. Yeah and they will be shooting at everything.. calling when they dont know how... but after opening weekend all the tourist will be gone and it will be locals only again... whooo hooo! 0 -
There a little beaver ponds all over central Georgia. Little ponds maybe of 1 acre or less, if you flew over the area you would be surprised how many there are. This was down in Baldwin Co. and Hancock Co. 0 -

Yeah, I used to have one on my deer lease, but it is all dried up now. So are most of the reserviors. Anyway, I have plans to go back up to PA for duck opener next year. Good friends, good dogs, good beer and wine (at night of course) and good fishing on Sunday when we can't hunt.0 -
Oh yeah, I forgot, the drought of Georgia. Haven't been back to central Georgia for a while, you are probably right.

Check things out down here in south east Ga. Do a search for "Rhetts Island"

You can also go for a quota hunt across 17 on "Butler Island"
or better yet... go out to buffalo swamp if you want wood ducks.. or the river and cruise up into the little off shooting creeks.

I did plenty of duck hunting when I lived in Long County. Small ponds and swamps all over the place. I haven't been there in ten years so I have no idea how the drought has affected that area. 0
