Opinions needed from fellow parents.
My 13 year old daughter has asked me if she can go on a school field trip to Washington D.C. this spring. We live about 8 hours from there. It will just be for the weekend. They will be taking a charter bus. I have been there about 15 years ago and all I can remember is all of the hookers and bums on the streets. It was a trashy city then in my opinion. But there are many good things to see and do there.
I guess my question is should I let her go or just come up with an excuse as why she doesn't need to go?

Do you know where they are staying ?
The Virginia side of the river is a much safer place to be in general. The subway (METRO) is clean, almost crime free, and will go to all the tourist areas.
I'm with the Sheriff's dept. directly across the river. Shoot me an E-mail, and I'll give you my phone # so if there are any serious issues, you can give me a shout.0 -

Travis went on school GT trip to Washington DC when he was 12. He had a great time. 0 -
With the legal jungle out there today ... schools cannot take a chance. I'd say let her go.
If you want to go ... ask if you can be a chaperone or see if you know any of the chaperones personally.0 -
You will reget not letting her go if you choose not to. She will always feel like she has missed something if she does not get to go. I was not allowed to go on a trip to DC when I was in middle school. I was allowed in highschool, but I still feel like I missed out on something.
It is hard to let go sometimes, but we have to.0
