I spent several years in Ft. Drum. I live off post and had to use tire chains on my two wheel drive to get to morning formation more than once when the wife needed the 4x4.

war pig, Im an officer, obviously theres no excuses to be late especially for officers. And I heard its smart to get a 4x4 because you better be there before your troops, and theres times when you need to be there when your troops arent.

You'll be a bit short of Drum if you try to get there from Syracuse in an hour... Unless you fly or are immune to NY's finest. Make it two hours and you'll have time for fuel and coffee, but make it a short stop.

Snow... There's a little from time to time. That would be from mid April to late September. Between October and March, Katie Bar the Door! Watertown and Tug Hill are to Lake Ontario what Buffalo is to Lake Erie.

4X4 is not necessary most days, however it is practical. If your need is to get there always rather than to get there fast sometimes, then maybe an older Blazer or RamCharger might be in order. A few rust holes here and there are merely the order of the day in the North Country.

    Best of luck!

Thats my dilemma. I have driven the monte in snow and it did good, but I never drove it in some real snow. And having a rob where not being able to get there is not an option i might need something that goes through snow

Nards, I live 10 miles from Drum and work there, also. We have a 4x4 but my wife has it most of the time. I drive a '98 Escort ( for the gas mileage). I rarely have a problem with the snow as they are usually good about the plowing.

If I were you, I would get a used 4x4 and keep the SS garaged or covered during the winter. Rust is your worst enemy here.
