Seeing how this is Lincoln's birthday shouldnt the USPS be closed for today. I did get mail (at least my PO delivered mail), but was wondering why would they want to ignore this leader?
I dont know if they will 'observe' it on friday to get a 4 day weekend for presidents day or not. However I believe you should 'observe' it on the origional date. Just my thoughts.

Lincoln's birthday is a state holiday in Illinois but not a federal so the USPS works today as usual. Illinois also recognizes president's day next week as a holiday, as will the USPS. There's always trade offs. IL will recognize MLK Jr. day, Lincoln's and President's day as state holidays but there is no holiday for Good Friday or Easter any more. I don't know what the USPS has negotiated.0 -
Also, they threw someone named G. Washington's birthday in there too. It used to be celebrated on the 22nd......I think I remember him as someone of some importance to our history....

The Post office used to be closed for Washington's and Lincolns birthdays, (or typically the Monday closest to the actual date) that was changed to "Presidents day" when Martin Luther King's birthday was made a federal holiday. 0
