How in the heck does salmonella get into peanut butter? Story about it on our local news last night. Since that is about all my 8 year old will eat, we keep pb on hand all the time. Wife went and checked the jars we had had, and sure enough, one of them had the code on it that corresponded to the contaminated batch.
If you have any Great Value (Wal-Mart brand) or any Peter Pan, check the lids for a product code beginning with "2111". If ya' got any, THROW IT OUT...but SAVE THE LID! There was an address to send the lid in and get your money back. Will have to find it. Wife has it around here somewhere. You can probably google con-agra or peter pan pb recall and find it yourself. BUT DON'T EAT THE PB!
EDIT...found the link for the recall...

Manufactured in bulk, or home-made?
Crunchy or creamy?
Fight, my minions!0 -
Nuts are boiled prior to going into peanut butter. It is possible that something cross-mixed with it (this is ConAgra we're talking about, one of the largest food manufacturers on Earth). 0 -
Yeah, I had one of the jars of peter pan...2/3 eaten!...botulism...yummy...[xx(] 0 -

The news reported that it was not the peanut butter that was contaminated, it was the jars. It had something to do with the way they were cleaned before the p b was put in them.
I read in the local fish wrap that someone has already filed a lawsuit because their kids got sick from it.0 -
"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger".
A future advertising campaign or a possible defense strategy for Peter Pan's attorney's?0
