Would you guys eat a...

MVP
Pet chicken or duck?
or a turkey or cow?
My friend raised Turkeys last year and they didn't want to this year because they made pets out of them.
They said it is better to buy a butterball turkey you never knew.

    Yep, and have. (Pigs/Cows)

    Have hand raised both from birth, don't know how much of a "pet" they were. I don't get emotionally attached. That's what they are here for, IMO.

    When I was a kid and raised pigs and calves for 4H, it about broke my heart to sell one, much less eat one of them! Chickens, ducks, and turkeys though are another story. I would and have eaten them after raising them.

    I have a buddy that takes odd jobs butchering farm animals for people..on site. Said he got a call to butcher a goat for someone - got there and asked where it was...they called for it by name, and he said here it came from around the house...cute little thing with a bell on it's neck.[:0][B)]

    A traveler was driving through Arkansas when he lost his way and got off the main highway. As he drove by, he saw rows and rows of pigsties and pigpens and pigs running in fields and pigs wallowing in mud. Suddenly, his eye caught something really strange. He did a double take, muttered to himself and then looked a third time. He wondered if he had seen correctly - it looked like a pig with a wooden leg!

    He found the lane to the farm and drove up into the farmyard, where he was met by the farmer. "Excuse me," the traveler said. "I was just driving by and looking at all your pigs, and I noticed something that I just had to stop and ask about. Tell me, did I see right? Is there really a pig out there with a wooden leg?" The farmer smiled. "Oh, that would be old Caesar you saw. He's the finest pig a man could ever hope to have - and smart! Well, let me tell you a little about that pig. You see that barge down there on the river? That's a mining dredge, taking out platinum ore. Old Caesar sniffed out the vein and showed us how to set it up. Now that dredge brings me in about $120,000 every year.

    "There's another thing, too, a little more personal. One night a couple of years ago I got to drinking and I guess I had more than I should have. I passed out drunk, fell down and knocked over a lamp. That started a fire in the house and old Caesar smelled the smoke. He came in the back door, got the wife and kid out, roused me up and got me out. "There is no question about it - that night old Caesar saved all our lives and you know that is not the sort of thing a man is going to forget too easily."

    "Why," the traveler said, "this is all amazing! I have never heard of a pig like this before! This is fantastic! But tell me, how did he get that wooden leg? Was he in a wreck or something?"

    The farmer laughed and said, "Well, naturally, when you have a pig that smart, you don't want to eat him all at one time!"

    Yes, it's just an animal and all animals die, it might be a pet, but even a pet fly is only going to live for a week

    Like the pet blue angora rabbit it had as a child. It mysteriously disappeared, and they didn't tell me for 20yrs that we had it for supper one night.[:0][:(!]

    No. Why should I? I can enjoy the pet's company and go to the store and buy whatever I want to eat with less fuss.

    As a child, a relative let me have some Rhode Island Red chicks.

    I'd come home from school, would feed'em, play with them...they were my pets. I even named them all.

    Then, someone complained to code enforcement...no "farm animals" allowed in the city limits. Dad got a warning to get rid of them or be fined.

    Dad called a buddy over who twisted their necks...right in front of me. To make matters worse, Mom cooked fried chicken that night.

    I was traumatized.

    So, the short answer is NO!

    I never let myself consider certain animal anything more than livestock destined for the butcher. We raised chickens, sheep, and cattle when I was growing up, they were just food to me.

    raised and ate sheep, goat, chickens, ducks, rabbits and beef
    wife had a massive crying jag when i chopped and plucked "her" ducks for dinner
    she did the city girl thing and got attached to them when she came to the house (we were still dateing)
    "i played with them babies" she was sobbing lol
    she stayed FAAR away when we slaughtered lamb. cause she bottle fed a couple of em

    Those are live stock, not pets, and I would slaughter and eat them as food.

    Sorry, I was raised in the country, and we ate livestock.

    One of my sons Rhode Island Red roosters took a hunk out of his leg. I held the bird and my son took its head off. We had chicken soup.

    Yes, because I would not make pets out of something I intended to eat.
    I would also keep the kids aware by naming the turkey "Thanksgiving" or "Dead Bird Walking" before the kids got the chance to name it "Princess" or "Mr. Red Beard"
    Been there, done that.

    If we were near the end of times and food was scarce, I would not hesitate to eat your pets.







    I'm sure they would taste better than Soylent green.
