Just curious to see how many other Nebraskans there are. Also where in Nebraska are you from? I'm from North Platte.

I grew up in omahaha.
where I'm at now, ppl ask me "are you from here?" nope. "you lived in ... for so many years, you're from there?" nope. I'm from nebraska, always will be.
I'd just as soon see about 2/3 of those redneck morons flung in the ocean, but I'll always be from nebraska.
my great grandpa, who was in the prussian army, immigrated to wisconsin; he didn't like it there, so he moved to nebraska. he got a farm and built a 3-room farmhouse (not much more than a shack) at what was then the edge of omaha in 1910. the 1918 spanish flu epidemic killed his wife, son, and infant son; he was left with 2 sons and a daughter. Omaha grew around his farm; he had horses, cows, sheep, ducks, geese, a peacock, a dalmation that drank vodka, pear trees, apple trees, and his neighbor had a pet coyote. the road leading to his house was a dirt road with 6' high dirt embankments on either side... that's now 50th and spring streets.
as he grew older, he sold the land. west of 50th street (that he sold off) is now a cemetery. east of 50th street he sold to developers (the subdivision as platted by the city has his name on it) except the lots immediately next to his farmhouse. one son lived on one side, the other (my grandpa) lived on the other side. his son (my dad) had a pet fox at one time. those were modern houses, but he kept and lived in his 3-room house, which was now right in the middle of town, until he died in 1970. he didn't get electricity until 1955 or so.
that farmhouse remained unoccupied. my grandpa died of old age in 1988; his brother died soon after. so my dad, instead of applying to the state to make the farmhouse (in the middle of Omaha) a state landmark (75 years or more) tore it down and sold the lot. he also sold the houses next to it.
my grandpa married a woman whose family settled parts of nebraska. some of them had the first post office and general store in nebraska. (I forgot where) others lived in sod houses and farmed. there was a story about one of them, she was working in the field and pregnant. she stopped, gave birth, and went back to work.
so this woman that he married (my grandma) got into the furniture business. she had a big store downtown. a jewish lady would come to her and buy furniture on credit, go sell it, and pay back my grandma. her name was Rose Blumkin, her store became the biggest furniture store in the midwest. you can see it here. http://www.nfm.com
but now, mom, dad, and my sister don't own any land other than the usual homeowner; I don't even live there anymore. the significance of our family to that place is gone.
