If you were to buy a 17 rifle which would you choose and why?

    HMR! Have one, will never get rid of it. Awesome varmit gun, deadly accurate and explosive to 150yds.

    If you reload - I would not buy either.

    I just hate the price of the ammo for them. Around here - $22 - $26/per 100. I reload quality ammo for my 17 Rem, 204 Ruger, & 223...for $16/100.

    HMR. Because I hunt a lot of Prairie Dogs.

    And it kills 'em real dang good.

    i bought a savage markII 17hm2 and love it. the reason i got the hm2 was because my longest shots will be 150 yrds max. this should be a very good caliber at that range and costs less for ammo than the HMR

    I would go for the HMR unless you are trying to convert a gun you already have. The big deal about the M2 is the fact that you can use more of the .22 lr stuff so it is easier to convert. I have a .17 HMR pistol just cause it seemed kinda cool, and it is.

    I very much agree with dcloco on his post. I have thought about buying a HMR rifle but I can load my other target guns for less money for more bang.

    I have a Marlin 917 as well. Heavy Barrel, black on black. Topped with a Barska 3-12x50 IR scope, sweet. A tack driver for sure! In a $189 rifle out of the box with factory ammo.

    I shot this group on my first day out.

    Ammo around here was 10.99/50, dropped to 9.99 and I've seen it for 8.99. It's coming down.

    Alot of people dog the 10/22 for not being accurate.Why would you spend the money to convert an inaccurate rifle? Why not just buy a 17?
    I have seen ammo for the mach2 for $3.99/50 and the hmr for $10/50

    The 10/22 is not inaccurate...or any 22LR...but the ammo sucks.

    My 10/22 will keep under an inch at 100 yards, with HIGH POWER 22 LR ammo all day long (Winchester Power Point).


    There is a situation for every caliber, but why pay money for HMR when you can reach out to 5-600 yards with a reloadable caliber?
