This one is a good one, especially if you liked the old WW2 "Joe and Willie" cartoons. It's The Brass Ring: A Sort of Memoir by Bill Mauldin. It's an autobiography of Mauldin that covers his life up through WW2. Awesome read! Has lots of the old "Joe and Wille" cartoons in it. Goes into great detail about Mauldin's never-ending feud with Gen. Patton! Funny as heck.

    I think I recall that Mauldin didn't make to the end of the War. Got killed in the Pacific Island Campaign, late in the war.

    I've got another Mauldin book, somewhere...

    That was Ernie Pyle. Mauldin made it through the war and died in 2003. He wanted to have Joe and Wille die on the last day of the war, but his editors at Stars and Stripes wouldn't let him.
