If he doesn't take your offer, Leave your number.

HE WILL CALL YOU. When no one else will even look at it for twice the amount of blue book value.

i called the guy who owned the car, told him i saw his car, told him what the blue book value on it was, and he flat out told me i was wrong, so i went through the specs with him while i was online and he was on the phone, 1993, Plymouth, Sundance, 2.2 4 cylinder, 31,182 miles, blue book value equals-1333. he told me again i was wrong. he sounded to be about 60-65, i think 3 grand is just what the car was worth to him.

Agree with this statement, and I would NEVER in my wildest dreams pay 3 grand for a car like that.

see the thing is, not having a car is keeping me from working as a rover, which i have to do, a rover just goes from site to site, securing whatever they tell me to secure. i get 46 cents per mile wherever they send me, i actually have to get a car tommorow, any one help? just need a car for 2g's or under, looks dont matter, its got to run reasonably reliably. i didnt think that was too much to ask. i dont care if the whole outside is scratched, dented, scraped whatever, just reasonably reliable.

Go to cars.com and search for the cheapest cars they have within whatever radius you're willing to travel to pick one up. I can practically guarantee you'll find something decent.

(EB motors is too much of a pain IMHO.)

(And there I always figgered you drove a loud Suburban...)

I was an insurance adjuster for 15 years. I totalled out a lot of cars.

People own a lot of sentimental value to their vehicles. They expect you to pay for that sentimental value. They will tell you all day long, no matter how much documentation you provide (try http://www.kbb.com, http://www.edmunds.com, http://www.nadaguides.com for more values) showing how much a vehicle is worth that you are wrong, wrong, wrong.

Well, you are wrong. The vehicle IS worth $3000 -- to them. Of course, you aren't going to pay them $3000. So, it is a win-win situation. His vehicle is worth $3000 and he can sleep soundly at night knowing that. You're not going to pay $3000 for his car, which is obviously worthless (worth less), and you'll sleep soundly at night.

BTW, my standard reply to someone who refused to accept hard numbers was to "Go out, do your own research, and show me what you've got. Oh yeah, dealer statements saying, 'I would have paid $___ for this car' is not research and is not credible."

I was always fair, I never lowballed anyone, I always believed in offering someone what their vehicle was worth and showing them all of my research.

There were some who refused to accept my very reasonable offer, and they found that their wrecks were towed to their driveway after a week and left there (because the insurance company isn't going to pay for storage costs at a tow yard while someone is demanding to be compensated for their sentimental value).

Believe it or not, I had a Pacer at one time. Kept it for a year until my sis turned 16 then she got it. Seven years later, when my other sis turned 16, she got it. AMC made some decent cars in the day. The Pacer didn't look like much, and the body was crap, but it ran and ran and ran with that little straight 6 engine! Before the Pacer, I had a Hornet! That was another good AMC vehicle!
