    The ad says for breaching, but most of the ads I have seen push them for bodyguard/VIP protection work. It would conceal nicely under a jacket.

    On the minus side, it only offers 3 shots, but on the plus side, those 3 are pretty wicked.

    The actions were bought from Rem having never been barreled. Some loop hole allows these to be Any Other Weapon. Had they been cut down from a regular issue one then the big fees apply. Go figure. I knew some folks that manufactured them in the mid 80's.

    If you will look, you will see another manufacturer stamp on the receiver, other than Remington. That Class III manufacturer can take any 870 receiver and remanufacture it into an AOW, and put their name and serial number on it. It happens all the time.

    It's actualy a class 2 manufacturer. Class 3 is a dealer and can only deal.

    The weapon does not take advantage of any "loophole".

    Allow me to help sort it out.

    It's not a shotgun, because it cannot be fired from the shoulder. If it HAD left the factory with a buttstock on it, then it would be an SBS (short barrelled shotgun) and the tax would be 200 bucks on each transfer.

    However, as someone pointed out, it left as a bare receiver or a pistol gripped receiver. Not considered a "shotgun" because a "shotgun" is defined by law as being a shoulder weapon.

    So. once the bbl is cut way back, it essentially becomes a smoothbore pistol. Smoothbore pistols are NFA weapons, classified as "AOW" (Any other Weapon) that is not a machinegun, short barrelled shotgun or short barrelled rifle, silencer, but rather an "other" (smoothbore pistol)...the transfer tax is only 5 dollars.

    The same paperwork and approval process as any other NFA weapon applies, however some states allow AOWs which do not allow machine guns or "sawed off" shotguns (SBSs)

    One thing which can be done is a modification to the shell lifter on the Remington to allow the use of the Aguila mini-shells, effectively doubling the mag tube capacity.

    My only complaint about these Serbu AOWs is the slathered in oil parkerized finish. I don't know about you, but an hour's worth of rust resistant coating could go a long way into making it a much better concealed carry piece which wouldn't stain your clothes with oil.

    Close but not quite. It is like AZEX said it has never had a Stock. These guns come from the factory without as an action and bbl or with a pistol grip.

    No, if we had a pistol grip shotgun with a legal barrel, and simply cut the barrel, we would not have an AOW. We would have a "weapon made from a shotgun." The gun must be manufactured in its present form, not made from something else, which is why it bears the mark of the re-manufacturer on the receiver.

    AOW can only come from a gun that has never had a stock on it. This is why the Mossberg "presuader" is a very popular gun to make AOW's out of.

    If it has ever had a stock on it then it can only become a SBS (short bbl shotgun) as it would fall into your "weapon made from a shotgun" group.

    Yes, but that one is an original Ithaca, not a Remington remanufactured as a Serbu.

    Well first off it will have to be legal for you to own in your state. Then you need to find a NFA dealer that can do a transfer for you. The dealer will be able to help you with all paperwork and how things work in your area.
