SBR from a pistol
Can you make a pistol into a registered SBR? I'm in Indiana.

As long as SBR is legal in your state. Here is a link that will help: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/statelaws/ . Most people make them out of pistols since it is easier to add a stock then chop a BBL. Uzi is one of the few exceptions.
If you want to make one you need to fill out a Form 1 (making NFA firearm) get it filled out and signed. Send in the forms with finger prints, passport photo and $200. Once it all comes back ONLY then can you make one or have the parts. If you want to buy one you local NFA dealer can help but the process is the same, just different forms.

Correct but you have a legal reason to have all of them. I you have an AR pistol kit and no legal reciever for it then it would be illegal. Like with my 10/22 pistol thread I could not cut a short BBL until I had a legal reciever to put it on. Now that I have a legal reason to own it I can have any length BBL I want.
The only question that might come into play is if you have more then 1 short BBL for any legal recievers you own. I do not have a good answer for that one or fact either good or bad. I do know it is LEGAL to have a Thompson Contender frame with lots of BBL's both short and long as well as pistol grips and stocks. You can still not legaly make an NFA firearm out of your parts but there was a ruling by the ATF in this case that says they "trust" you to have all the parts and you wont break the law.0
