You opinions on the 5.45x39 caliber??

Aim has a WASR-10 in this caliber for $290 and 1080rds for $130. Is this a pretty high surplus round? What are your opinions on the caliber itself?

  I know the Afghans were terrified of it.

  Aim has a Romanian WASR2 with 2-30rd mags fro $289. Sounds like a great deal to me.
  
  I was going to build my ammo inventory then saw the deal they had on this. Sound like a decent price?

  The only thing I would worry about on this one is how long will you be able to get ammo for it. I know things come and go a lot and there is a lot of it around now but that may change a lot in 10 yrs. From that stand point you might be better off in 7.62x39 which I think will be easer to get later even if there is no cheep surplus for it. There are American companys making 7.62x39, I dont know about the other.
  
  Now with all that said I that is a decent price on ammo. Going rate of 7.62x39 is at least $20 higher on 1000rd cases. I dont know what the 5.45 mags cost so make sure you add that to your overall cost.
