Can you imagine test driving something like that? What-a-rush!! 0 -
I have a relative who owns an '88 Callaway Corvette. This is a "regular" Callaway, not a Sledgehammer, but those folks don't produce anything that's below the awesome level.
It has a twin-turbocharged/blue-printed and balanced 350 engine, racing suspension, racing brake system and a 4-speed racing tranny with electric overdrive available in each gear. Straight from Callaway it tops out at 165mph, but with a tire upgrade they'll chip it up to I believe 235mph.
This thing is unreal to drive. I've been in many old muscle cars that slam you back into the seat and don't let you up until you hit the sunny side of 100mph. This car is still accelerating hard enough to keep you slammed back there until about 140mph. At this point the pressure eases off you, but it continues accelerating at an outrageous rate all the way to top end.
They build Corvettes the way Chevy should.
BTW-If anyone's interested, it's for sale. According to the brass plate mounted on the console it's the first '88 model Callaway produced and he's the original owner.0 -
A new 2007 C-16 Callaway will run 206 mph. However a factory new Z-06 will go 198 mph. Not bad right off the truck.. 0 -
I realize Chevrolet projects 198mph as the Z06's top speed, but from what I've read it's actually a bit lower.
Chevy also states their 7.0-liter LS7 engined model produces 505hp/475 lb-ft of torque. Callaway uses a supercharged 6.0-liter LS2 that cranks out 616hp/582 lb-ft torque. That's significant.
The Z06 is the most serious factory car ever produced, but the Callaway version still has a heavy edge on performance.0 -
never did see a car like corvettes off the truck from st.louis and bowling green 0 -

But the price difference between a Z06 and a Callaway version...ugh!0 -

Agree, nothing like a purpose built road racer...and add a big block.
Only thing better....put a big block Chevy in it.0 -

Camaro needed a diet (poundage heavy).
How do you figure a Viper will take care of a Vette?
The stock Vette stacks up nicely against the Viper....in just about every area. See the Car & Driver shootout.0
